Meri raaton ke andhere mein ujaale tum ho

Posted on: June 20, 2012

“Khubsoorat” (1952) was a Fazli Brothers production. It was directed by S F Hussain. The movie had Nasir Khan, Suraiya, Yakub, Bhudo Advani, Zubeida, Jankidas etc in it.

While looking for a nice song from from this movie, I stumbled upon another song from this movie. And what a fantastic song it turned out to be !

Here is this forgotten gem from “Khubsoorat” (1952). This song is sung by Talat Mehmood. Lyrics are written by Shams Azimabadi. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.

Only the audio of this song is available. My guess is that the song was picturised on Nasir Khan.

I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and on the picturisation of this song.

Song-Meri raaton ke andhere mein ujaale tum ho (Khubsoorat)(1952) Singer-Talat Mehmood, Lyrics-Shams Azimabadi, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

meri raaton ke
ae ae
meri raaton ke andhere mein
ujaale tum ho
jispe sau chaand hain qurbaan
wo taare tum ho
meri raaton ke
ae ae
meri raaton ke andhere mein
ujaale tum ho
meri raaton ke

jis taraf dekhta hoon
tum hi nazar aate ho
jis taraf dekhta hoon
tum hi nazar aate ho
jo nigaahon mein ae ae
jo nigahon mein base hain
wo nazaare tum ho
jo nigahon mein base hain
wo nazaare tum ho
jis pe sau chaand hain qurbaan
wo taare tum ho
meri raaton ke ae ae
meri raaton ke andhere mein
ujaale tum ho
meri raaton ke

dil to kya cheez hai
ab jaan bhi hai tumpe nisaar
dil to kya cheez hai
ab jaan bhi hai tumpe nisaar
jaan o dil se bhi ee ee
jaan o dil se bhi jiyaada
mujhe pyaare tum ho
jaan o dil se bhi jiyaada
mujhe pyaare tum ho
jis pe sau chaand hain qurbaan
wo taare tum ho
meri raaton ke ae ae
meri raaton ke andhere mein
ujaale tum ho
meri raaton ke

A truly rare number. There seems to be something wrong with the audio. It seems to have been slowed down artificially, which makes Talat’s voice sound not-so-good! This link has the song sourced from the original 78 rpm, and plays at the correct speed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoTw3_jfnRQ
