Taaron mein saj ke

on:“Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli”(1971) was a V Shantaram Productions movie. It was produced and directed by V Shantaram movie. The movie had Ravindra, Vasant Parekh, Minal, Abhijeet, Vastala Deshmukh, Iftekhar, Sandhya, Dina Gandhi, Raja Paranjpe, Nanda, Birbal, Praveen Kumar, Sushant Ray etc in it. The movie was a resounding failure at the box office. Even its songs failed to climb to the popularity stakes. But that is only to be expected seeing that 1971 was a year of bumper crop of outstanding music.
Personally I do not recall ever listening to the songs of this movie. I listened to a song of this movie for the first time only just now, more than four decades later.
This song is sung by Mukesh, It is picturised as a stage song on Abhijeet and Sandhya.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The music is clearly lifted from the theme music of “For a few dollars more”. If one can ignore this irritant this this song is a nice hummable song on its own.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)
taaron mein saj ke,
apne sooraj se
dekho dharti chali milney
taaron mein saj ke,
apne sooraj se
dekho dharti chali milney
jhanki paayal mach gayee halchal
ambar saara lagaa hilney
taaron mein saj ke,
apne sooraj se
dekho dharti chali milney
aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa aa aa aa
hai ghataao ka,
do nain mein kaajal
dhoop ka mukh pe
daale sunehra sa aanchal
hai ghataaon ka, ho o o
do nain me kaajal ho o o
dhup ka mukh pe hooo
dale sunehara sa aanchal
ho o
yu lehraayi li angdayi
lagi jaise dhanak khilne
taaron mein saj ke, apne sooraj se
dekho dharti chali milney
aag see lapken,
jalti huyi raahen
ji ko dahlaayen,
bechain toofan ki aahen
aag se lapken, ho o
jalati huyi raahen, ho o
ji ko dahlaayen, hooo
bechain toofan ki aahe
na daregi na rukegi
dekhe kyaa ho kahaa dil ne
taaron mein saj ke,
apne sooraj se,
dekho dharti chali milney
dekho dharti chali milney
dekho dharti chali

I could not have escaped the songs of this movie if I tried. They were all over the radio, and the radio programme of this movie was aired regularly. It did make me curious about the movie. Luckily I saw it when I was able to watch it without expecting too much out of it, so I even kind of enjoyed the silliness.
The songs were nice.

V. Shantaram=the Royal Lotus (Raaj Kamal).
He loved dance, music and arts in any way, shape and form.
This film is all about the great hollow graphics costumes, special effects of lighting, songs with deep meanings and great music. He was indeed ahead of his times.
Karma yoga is an intrinsic part of many derivative types of yoga, such as Nutraya (dance) as one of Karma yoga. Yoga means selfless (altruistic) service.
Dance is spiritual, is the message of this movie

Somewhere I had read that the songs of the movie were one of the first ones in true stereo by HMV.(Or the songs of movies were recorded with stereophonic sound system) I don`t remember exactly.
Arunji HELP 🙂
But the records of this movie boasts of something very unique, that one thing is sure
and all the songs sung by Lata ji(Atulji Lyrics were with you : ) ) are very melodious.(May not be visually impressive, but if you listen to those songs in solitude, the are very good.)
1)O mitwaa o mitwaa ye duniya toh kya hai, main chhod doon ye jeevan-lata
2)Mann ki ye pyaas mere mann se na nikli-lata
3)Jo main chali -lata
4)Kajraa lagaake,bindiyaa sajaake-lata
5)Baat hai ek boond si-mukesh
6)Jhoom ke gaa ai dil-mukesh

A metaphor is a figure of speech, it suggests that the dissimilar things are the same.
A fish out of water means..someone who is in a situation they are not suited for.
“The fish out of water” as someone who is out of his or her normal environment or range of activities.
Fish don’t know they’re in water. If you tried to explain it, they’d say, “Water? What’s water?”
They’re surrounded by the water all the time, so it’s impossible for fish to know that they been in the water. They can’t see it, until they get outside of it.
But then they’ll feel out of place, like they don’t belong without the water.
“Nritya Bin Bijli” The streaks of lightning dance in the sky or sometimes zigzag between two clouds.
Here metaphor is Dance (Nritya). The dancing means engaging. Dance is a self-expression. To do the dance one should have the mind-body-spirit connection . Group dancing is pleasurable activities. Everybody moves with the same music and with the same rhythm.
e.g.. A flock of birds moves like a well choreographed dance troupe (b) in the aquarium fish can swim in synchronized perfectio..
Neither fish will live without water (Jal bin machhali) nor a lightning (Bijli) will strike without a dance (nritya).
The title suggest: “Not Meant To Be”.
Yes, Prakashji. You are absolutely right. This film’s music was on geniuene Stereo, not artificially done which some recording companies had been doing. I bought a LP and was floored by it’s music. The LP released before the film. Impredssed, I went to see the film when it released. I was disappointed. Sandhya was the sole reason of this film’s failure. But please don’t judge an artisi by his failures alone. V. Shantaram was a true artist, a rare artist . We should be grateful that we were fortunate to see his films then when they first released.

I had the dubious honour of seeing this movie when it released. Two of my friends nearly dragged me for it. I’m happy to tell you hat they too got royally bored! Did Shantaram ever make any sensible movies after ‘Do Ankhen Baarah Haath’ ? He made movies mainly to showcase his ‘wife’ Sandhya’s non-existent acting abilities and equally non existing dancing abilities! ‘Sehra’ may have been an exception to the rule.
Another song from ‘Jal Bin Machli…” is the title number..”Man ki pyaas mere manse na nikli, aise thadpu main jaise jal bin machli…” The dance and the costume of Sandhya in this song can be described in just one word: BIZARRE!

V. Shantaram had hire Tapan Sinha for this song to do lighting direction…he used empty tin of dalda ghee and some color tissue to creat all the lightings for this song…a genius man.
Sandya’s costume was metallic/ holographic costumes that can blend with the surrounding environment.
