Hullo Atuldom

The title-cards of movies that he was present in always billed him as “And Pran”.

His was the character needed to bring out the hero in Raj-Dilip-Dev, Dharam-Rajendra-Sunil. Shammi Kapoor fooled him in “Kashmir Ki Kali”, “Bluffmaster” etc’ Kishore Kumar made him run after him in “Half Ticket”. He was unhappily-married to the girl Manoj Kumar loved in “Do Badan”.

He was a strict-rich-unbending father to Rishi Kapoor in “Bobby”. A friend to Ashok Kumar in reel and real life, they came together on-screen for the first time in “Afsana” (1951). {I hope this is correct!!! In-house encyclopediaji and other knowledgeable Atulites need to confirm this}.

He was seen along side Ashok Kumar in close to 27 movies till 1987 when Ashok Kumar played Pran’s (Thakur Satyaprakash) trusted driver, Man-Friday etc. in the Prayag Raj directed “Hifazat”. (Hope I am right here, have seen this film a long time back on television).

His association with Manoj Kumar has material for a post on its own, but I feel like mentioning that it was Manoj Kumar who thought that Pransaab (as the industry addressed him) will be able to do justice to the character of Malangbaba in “Upkaar”. The last time Pransaab acted in a Manoj Kumar was “Jai Hind” in 1999.

Additionally Pransaab was instrumental in making characters of Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra and various other actors of the 70s and 80s standout in numerous films.

It is very difficult to write a post about this lovable artiste, without touching on the extra touch, that he added to all his characters so that no-two villains looked same or had similar traits. He looked menacing blowing smoke-rings holding his pipe/cigar/cigarette in different styles. The mustache of Raka in ‘Jis desh mein Ganga behte hain” was different from the one he sported in “Ram aur Shyam”. If Helen experimented with her outfits for her dance numbers, Pransaab was known to play around his hair styles. I am sure that the readers will feel that I am a huge fan of this actor who was awarded the “Villain of the Millenium” by Stardust in 2000, the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2013.

Yes, I loved to see this actor in action. I found him adorable. There is a whole list of songs filmed on this actor and the following are the ones I loved him most in.

Song Movie (Year) Date posted Singer
Daaru ki bottle mein saahab paani bharta hai Majboor (1974) 14 Nov 2008 Kishore Kumar
Aake seekhi lagi Half Ticket (1962) 8 Feb 2009 Kishore Kumar, Pran
Kasme waade pyaar wafa waahe hain waadon ka kya Upkaar (1967) 1 March 2009 Manna Dey
Dil ki umangen hain jawaan Munimjee(194) 27 April 2009 Hemant Kumar, Geeta Dutt, Pran
Raaz ki baat keh doon to jaane mehfi mein phir kya ho Dharma (1973) 21 May 2009 Asha Bhonsle, Rafi
Do bechaare bina sahaare Victoria number 203 (1971) 10 March 2011 Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar
Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi Zanjeer (1973) 12 February 2012 Manna Dey
Mujhse nazren milaane ki jurrat na kar Maan Gaye Ustaad (1981) 26 November 2012 Rafi, Manna Dey
Mera ek sawaal hai sawaal ka jawaab do Maan Gaye Ustaad (1981) 12 February 2018 Rafi, Chandrani Mukherjee, Dilraj Kaur
Aji sunte ho Raja Aur Rana (1983) 12 February 2019 Mahesh Kumar, Kishore Kumar
Shaam suhaani aayi khushiyaan banke pehli baar Zinda Dil (1975) 12 February 2020 Lata, Shailendra Singh, Mahendra Kapoor

The list is not complete, there are more songs where either he is simply standing and smiling benevolently or menacingly (depending on the era of the song). I remember a song from the 90s where he is seen partying on his wedding anniversary with Asha Parekh. Everytime I see this song I think of Pran and Asha Parekh from all those movies of the 60s when he played the spoke in her love-life with the hero of those films:- “Jab Pyaar kisise hota hai”, “Love In Tokyo”, “Do Badan”, and the list is long here too. What more does one expect when a person has a career starting from 1940 and going on till 2007.

Thinking of this actor today on his 102nd birth anniversary with the party song that I mentioned in the previous paragraph. The movie is the 1993 release “Bhagyawan” which had Govinda play the son of Asha Parekh & Pran, with Juhi Chawla, Ranjeet, Aruna Irani, Kirti Kumar (Govinda’s real-life brother), Johnny Lever etc forming the rest of the cast. The movie was a typical family drama. It had songs written by Sameer, M G Hashmat, and Hasrat Jaipuri. Today’s song is sung by Abhijeet. Anand Milind were the music directors of this film.

I take this as the party to celebrate two other occasions- birthday of one Atulite and wedding anniversary of another Atulite (sirf hint hi kaafi hai).
Wishing all the best to both the Atulites.

Hullo Atuldom

Time for a yearly roundup!!!! 2021 coming to a close. 2022 just a sunrise away. Hope we have different experiences in 2022, experiences that make us glad and bring a smile to our lips which stays the whole year.

I am sure Atulji or Sudhirji or one of the other blog-contributors, who have the patience to go through the statistics etc., will give us a table of how many new movies debuted on the blog in 2021, and other related info about which date saw how many posts etc. But the best that happened this year, IMO, is the series that Atulji undertook to enlist all the movies, music directors etc that Lata Mangeshkar was associated with in her looonnngg career.

On the way out of 2021 here is a song from the 1993 release “Shatranj”. A movie that I saw at the time of its release on cable TV, before the Satellite TV Tsunami hit us. It was produced by Arun S. Thakur, directed by Aziz Sejawal, had music by Anand Milind, and Sameer was the lyricist. S P Balasubramaniam, Abhijeet, Udit Narayan, Jolly Mukherjee, Kumar Sanu, Sudesh Bhonsle, Jayshree (popular as Bombay Jayshri in classical music circles), Poornima, Sadhana Sargam (i.e. all the good singers of the 90s) were used in the movie.

Kadar Khan was the dialogue writer of the movie which begins like “Chalti ka Naam Gaadi” (CKNG) which means we have three brothers -bachelors- who are reared by the eldest brother Dharamraj (Kadar Khan), the other two brothers being Dino and Dinky (Jackie and Mithun). The eldest brother has a problem with the female gender of the populace (like Ashok Kumar in CKNG), the other two don’t have any such issues and Renu & Radha (Divya Bharaati and Juhi Chawla) are their girl friends. Then there is a female called Rosie (Jamuna who appeared in a few films in the 80s and 90s, not much is known about her) who is shown to like the elder brother Dharamraj since childhood (Sarfaraz Khan, Kadar Khan’s own son played the younger Dharamraj). The reason for Dharamraj’s problem with females is shown as his step-mother who was nasty to him and his brothers as children.

The story has the necessary villain in the character of Prajapati (Kiran Kumar) the manager to the brothers’ father’s (Vikas Anand) business and also his killer. He is cheating the brothers’s step-mother and step-brother (Shakti Kapoor) and using their business as a front for his illegal activities (what else). The brothers have some misunderstandings with Dharamraj when Renu & Radha enter their lives, which get resolved; then the hard-feelings towards the step-family also is sorted out and the cause of all the problems in their lives (Prajapati) is brought to his logical end. And then “The End”.

Oh I forgot to mention a few more tributes that the movie paid to CKNG. CKNG had ‘Mohan Garage’ here the brothers have ‘Dharam Garage’. There was a ‘car’ in CKNG even this movie had a ‘car’ important to the story. CKNG begins with a song on the pet car, this one too begins with a song on the car. Additionally the brothers have a pet Monkey/ Chimpanzee. So let us have the movie debuting on the blog with the film-opening song that shows us the bonding between the brothers. This song is in the voices of SPB, Abhijeet and Udit Narayan.

There used to be a show called ‘Superhit Muqabla’ on Doordarshan Metro of those years (28 years back) which was on the lines of the legendary Binaca Geetmala. The show used to retire songs from the list of popular songs, which were complied based on vinyl records and cassette sales & and viewership of the show as such, after a 25 week run to make place for newer songs, very much like Binaca Geetmala. And songs of “Shatranj” (1993) were on this show for many weeks.

With this song we also say thank you to the entertainer Kadar Khan who left us today, in 2018, in Canada, where he was staying with his sons following his retirement from Bollywood. His last release was ‘Hogaya Dimaagh ka Dahi” in 2015 October (after a gap of seven years when ‘Mehbooba’ and ‘Deshdrohi’ released). He was a recipient of three Filmfare awards viz:

Best Dialogue for “Meri Awaz Suno” in 1982.

Best Comedian for “Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri” in 1991.

Best Dialogue (again) for “Angaar” in 1993.

He was conferred the Padma Shri, posthumously in 2019 by the Government of India.

He was 81 when he passed away.

Hullo Atuldom

Recently, last five years to be exact, November 2nd has been added to the dates for which I feel compelled to write a post. These were the posts from the last Five years

Dates Song
2 November 2016 Dil aashna hai jigar aashna hai
2 November 2017 Taak dhin dhin taak dhin dhin dhin
2 November 2018 Jaata hai tu kahaan
2 November 2019 Aashiq hoon main qaatil bhi hoon
2 November 2020 Katthai aankhon waali ek ladki

November 2nd became an important date in the calendar for Atuldom when we discovered that a very dear Atulite has his birthday on this date. He used to be a very active member of Atuldom. But has been missing from action since the last four months- his last post on the blog was on July 19, 2021. He has contributed 1407 posts to the blog (the highest by a guest poster on ASAD), enriched 137 posts by contributing lyrics for them, plus he has added Devnagari lyrics to 1414 posts. Most importantly all his posts have lyrics in both Devnagari and the Roman script. He is a treasure house of information and has connections to collectors of music and vinyl records of music from all eras and is competent in locating rare gems when requested by followers of the blog.

Of course his journey on the blog began like all other followers (correct me if I am wrong Sudhirji) landing on Atulsongaday in search of some song, liking the premise of the blog and staying glued to it forever. He went a step further when he became Atulji’s aide and shared the task of posting songs on the blog, which actually helped on days when Atulji was busy with earthly responsibilities.

Here is wishing our very own Dilldaar Dilliwala “Many More Happy returns of the day”.

For this post I propose that we have a song from the 26th October 2001 released, Santosh Sivan directed and Gauri Khan/ Juhi Chawla produced ‘Asoka’. It had a starcast headed by Kareena Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Danny, Ajith Kumar (the southern star), Gerson Da Cunha (Adman, Stage & media personality), Umesh Mehra (the producer/ director of films like ‘Guru’, ‘Ashanthi’, ‘Mujrim’ etc.) along with Subhashini Ali, Hrishita Bhatt, Rahul Dev etc. The music was composed by Anu Malik; Gulzar and Anand Bakshi are credited as lyricists (must be the only time these two featured as lyricists in the same film). The vocals of Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, K.S. Chitra, Hema Sardesai can be heard in the songs.

Here is a melodious song from the movie which is filmed on another Dilliwala -SRK who also has his birthday today with Anu Malik the music composer also celebrating his birthday. This post which celebrates three birthdays is sung by a person whose birthday was on 30th October- Abhijeet. The female voice is of Alka Yagnik.

Wish you a very Happy Birthday Sudhirji with this song penned by Gulzar.

It can be seen from the table of 1984 that Lata Mangeshkar sang 70 songs in 39 movies released in 1984.

10 songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar in movies of 1984 have been covered in the blog. That leaves us with 60 songs from movies of 1984 that are yet to be covered.

All Lata Mangeshkar songs from 4 movies of 1984 are already covered in the blog. So 60 Lata Mangeshkar songs from 35 movies of 1984 are still available to be discussed.

Alphabetically “Aanand Aur Aanand”(1984) is the first movie that offers us a Lata Mangeshkar song to cover in the blog.

“Aanand Aur Aanand”(1984) was produced and directed by Dev Anand for Navketan to launch the career of his son Suneil Anand. The movie had Suneil Anand and Natasha Sinha in lead roles. The movie also had Dev Anand, Rakhee Gulzar, Smita Patil, Raj Babbar,Biswajeet, Rakesh Bedi, Birbal, Sudhir, Gautam Sareen, Zubeda, Beena, Ghanshyam, Pardesi, R.S.Chopra, Mahajan, Narinder Mehta, Rahul Sharma, Ashok Sharma, Davinder, Ravindar Arora, C.A.Bhapaiah etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it. One of them was a duet song containing Lata Mangeshkar’s voice. This song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Abhijeet. This was the debut playback song for Abhijeet in Hindi movies.

Here is that Lata Mangeshkar song from “Aanand Aur Aanand”(1984). The song is penned by Anjaan. Music is composed by R D Burman.

The song is picturised on Suneil Anand and Natasha Sinha. Suneil Anand is seen trying to ape the mannerisms of his famous father Dev Anand but failing miserably.

The movie also has a one line version of the song picturised on Suneil Anand, but that does not qualify to be called a song. HFGK does not mention this one line song in the list of songs.

Lyrics of the song and other details were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

With this song, “Aanand Aur Aanand”(1984) makes its debut in the blog.

Hullo Atuldom

In one of his recent posts our Avinash ji has suggested that there should be a category of posts – ‘Post inspired by fellow Atulite’ or ‘Post inspired by Atulite WA group chat’. I would like to borrow a phrase from Sudhir ji ‘thank you for the nudge’ and direct it towards Avinash ji. If not for Avinash ji I would have written this post a month later. Don’t know how I mixed up dates. And there have been posts wherein Atul ji has credited me with being good at remembering dates. It is not so Atul ji, calendars also need reminders.

I am 100% sure that the followers of this blog and non-followers too will be aware of a movie that released in the 70s. 1975 to be exact. It went by the name ‘Sholay’. It was a multi-star-cast movie that ran for years in a single cinema hall in Mumbai. This blog has already covered each and every song possible from that movie with detailed posts accompanying them. I am sure, the readers are wondering, why I am revisiting the movie then? Well ‘Sholay’ is something like an ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ (1977) or any other formula movie. ‘AAA’ had a lost-and-found formula which was repeated in many movies after it. ‘AAA’ itself was a copy of numerous movies preceding it with the lost-and-found theme. It can be safely said that Indian movies thrive as much on the stories of the Ramayan and Mahabharata as they do on the lost-and-found theme.

So, where does ‘Sholay’ fit, in the scheme of things? Well, the ‘Thakur-Dacoit-Hired help’ formula has been repeated in a few movies too. Personally I have seen three movies on that story-line, there may be more. Two of them had a female for Thakur. That is, someone out to avenge the injustice meted out to her assisted by guys – ladies were SUPPOSED to be naajuk, bebas, etc. and a widow to add masala to the story. I am sure a woman of the new millennium will protest at the description of bebas, naajuk – even I will protest. There were Basanti and Radha as love interests in ‘Sholay’ – all the remakes also had ladies to distract the Veeru and Jai of the remakes.

Yesterday I saw ‘Army’ which had released on 28th June 1996 i.e. exactly 8 days short of 24 years ago. It was directed by Raam Shetty, produced by Nitin Manmohan and Mukul Anand and had music by Anand Milind. This is one of the ‘Sholay’ remakes that I spoke of in the previous paragraph. It has Sridevi playing a pregnant widow out to avenge her husband’s death for which she takes the help of five prisoners who are on the death-row. I hope the ‘Sholay’-connect has been explained. Explaining further- there it is two prisoners, here it is five. There the prisoners escape hoodwinking the ‘Angrezon ke zaamane ka Jailor‘; here Sridevi helps the prisoners get out of prison using sleep-inducing sweets. In ‘Sholay’; the thakur’s house was on a hillock overlooking the village, even that was replicated in ‘Army’. The prisoner’s are holed up in a secluded house that overlooks the area adjoining the palace of Sridevi’s tormentor. This was then the background of the movie from which I am presenting a song to our today’s birthday boy.

Coming back to the thoughts expressed in the opening paragraph, I asked Avinash ji if he was aware of the favourites of our today’s birthday boy. Favourite actor, singer, music director etc. Both of us thought hard and found that we don’t know much about his favourites but he knows all of us fairly well. What I do know, he has a ‘more than’ good knowledge about cricket and movies. He loves his pets and they are the family that live with him as his wife is working in a different town and daughter is a student elsewhere. Of late I have discovered that he has a love for the progresses that the country has made in the various sectors post the ’98 Pokharan tests. He is proud to be employed in the biggest service provider of the nation.

In addition to all that he has a unique sense of humor, which surfaces often on the blog in his posts and is given the title “Atulism” by our very own Rajaji.

Its is the birthday of the brain behind this blog, our Ranchiwala Gaanewala (Sudhir ji’s title for him). Wish you a very Happy Birthday Atul ji from your Army of contributors. We wish you all the best with lots of fun and music.

Today’s song is a lively song where the prisoners are having a party-like song and dance before escaping from the prison. It is sung by Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet and Vinod rathod. The two male singers are playback for Ravi Kishan. Ronit Roy, Sudesh Berry, Mohnish Behl and Harish who feed the jailor Kiran Kumar a laddo during the song and the favour is returned by the jailor. So when the song ends the rest of Sridevi’s Army have to bodily carry him out of the prison. It was an entertaining movie but becomes too violent towards the end. Whatever gory violence was snipped out of ‘Sholay’ found itself here.

Once again wishing our leader Atul ji a very Happy Birthday

When I looked at the lyrics of this song, I quickly made some guesses about this song and its movie:-

1. This movie is directed by David Dhawan.

2. Music is by Anu Malik

3. The song is picturised as a chaalu dance song on klead pair of Govinda and Karishma Kapoor.

When I watched the picturisation and saw the details of the movie, I found that I had hit the bulls’s eye on 1 and 2. I was wrong in 3. The song was picturised not on Govinda and Karisha Kapoor but on Akshay Kumar and Juhi Chawla.

This movie was called “Mr and Mrs Khilaadi” (1997). May be I should have paid attention to the title to guess the hero. If the title had the word “Khilaadi” in it, then it used to be an Akshay Kumar starrer. If the title had the phrase “number one” in it, then that used to be Govinda starrer, duly directed by David Dhawan.

The movie “Mr and Mrs Khilaadi” (1997) was produced by Keshu Ramsey and directed by David Dhawan. The movie had Akshay Kumar, Juhi Chawla, Kader Khan, Gulshan Grover, Johny Lever, Satish Kaushik, Anjala Zaveri, Paresh Rawal, Birbal, Guddi Maruti, Mac Mohan, Himani Shivpuri, Upasna Singh, Rakesh Bedi, Anil Dhawan, Kishore Bhanushali, Jack Gaud, Raj Kishore etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it. This song is the first song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Abhijeet and P0ornima. Dev Kohli is the lyricist. The lyrics are obviously inspired from the popular political slogan of Bihar those days that was -“Jab rak rahega samose mein aalu tab tak Bihar mein rahega Laalu.”

Thankfully that politician has proved to be more fallible than the humble aalu.

One obviously watches this song and listens to it with very low expectations, and so the song turns out to be a good fun to watch and listen to. The song has somer witty lines. In adduition to aaalu and samosa, the lyrics rope in idly and dosa as well;. 🙂

The dance that the two acors are seen performing is not disco, or ramba samba or any such known dance form. It is nothing more than aerobics exercises. 🙂

Here is this fun song from “Mr and Mrs Khilaadi” (1997) first thing in the morning. Only if I could somehow get a samosa, or even idly and dosa at this time in the morning. Alas, I have to make do with just a morning cup of tea. 🙂

Song-Jab tak rahega samose mein aalo (Mr and Mrs Khilaadi) (1997) Singers-Abhijeet, Poornima, Lyrics- Dev Kohli, MD-Anu Malik

Hullo Atuldom

Let us all wish the Baadshah of Bollywood on his 54th birthday.

Wish this was an audio post, then I would have started my post with what we used to hear on the radio Ads in the 70s and 80s. I would have first played a line “aashiq hoon main qaatil bhi hoon” then after the voice over by a Vijay Behl or Ameen Sayani or a Vinod Sharma or it could be Harish Bhimani (I don’t remember the names of all the announcers, sorry) the Radio Ad would have closed with the repeat of the last line of the mukhda of the song – “Baadshah o baadshah, baadshah hey baadshah, baadshah”.

But then this is neither an audio post nor a radio ad. But our today’s birthday boy is a huge fan of those days, when we used to hear songs on the radio. Up the volume when our favourite song was played and sat glued to hear all the details of the song viz: singer, lyricist, composer, movie name etc. And if due to some disturbance on the frequency waves or any other reason we missed the details then we would have to wait for god-knows-how-long to hear it again. Because back then, Radio Ceylon and Vividh Bharati were our sole source for HFM- Doordarshan happened much later and IMDB and other sites were not even on the horizon. Right Birthday Boy? I am talking of our Sudhirji here. We have seen him mention about his love for HFM being fed by what he heard on the Radio in many of his posts.

He is an ‘Aashiq’ of film music and is so knowledgeable about its many aspects. And he keeps discovering new angles of HFM and his posts are rich because of this constant search of his. And occasionally he also doubles up as Atulji’s most trusted aide in keeping the blog running. Thank you Atulji for introducing us to Sudhirji- the dilldaar Dilliwala. Wish you a very Happy Birthday Sudhirji, may you never run out of ideas for new posts and series.

November 2nd also happens to be the birthdate of music director/ singer Anu Malik- son of yesteryear-music director Sardar Malik. He has been around in the industry since 1980 – debuting with an obscure movie “Hunterwaali 77” (never heard of this movie before 🙂 ). He has worked his way to the A-list music directors with successful albums like “Mard”, “Sohni Mahiwal”, “Ganga Jamuna Saraswati” etc. His albums of the 90s had many melodies which got their movies a slightly long run at the box-office; movies like “Sir”, “The Gentleman”, “Vijaypath”. “Naaraz’’, “Naajayaz’’ etc. Music by Anu Malik in “Chamatkaar” was the first collaboration of SRK (the other birthday boy for today). Subsequently Anu Malik has given music to a few of SRK’s movies- “Baazigar”, ‘Ram Jaane”, “Duplicate”, “Baadshah”, “Josh”, “Asoka”, “Main Hoon Na” etc etc. Wish you a very Happy Birthday Anu Malik.

As can be seen in the list in the previous paragraph we have a huge library from which to choose a song for today. I have had suggestions from my Peevesie and Nahmji too about which could be a good choice for today’s triple birthday and I am settling for the song with which I opened the post as I have inside information about the possibility of Peevesie’s suggestion being fulfilled today.

From his debut in movies in 1992 to 1998 SRK had about 3 or 4 releases every year. 1999 had only one SRK movie- Baadshah (it was after the success of this movie that Shahrukh was given the epithet “Baadshah of Bollywood”), which was directed by Abbas – Mustan. It had him playing a bumbling detective with Sudhir, Johnny Lever, Sharad Sankhla, Harpal as his team mates and Twinkle Khanna was the female lead. It had Rakhee and Amrish Puri with Sharat Saxena, Deepshika, Sachin Khedekar etc in supporting roles and Shashikala and Prem Chopra in guest appearances. Our song today is from “Baadshah” which was written by Sameer and filmed as a disco song performed in a night club with Twinkle, Amrish Puri, Viju Khote etc as audience and Pankaj Dheer makes an entry towards the end of the song. It is sung by Abhijeet (who turned 61 on 30th October).

A very Happy Birthday to all the Birthday Boyz. Lets enjoy the party.

Song-Aashiq hoon main qaatil bhi hoon (Baadshah)(1999) Singer-Abhijeet, Lyrics-Sameer, MD-Anu Malik

Lyrics

Aashiq hoon main
qaatil bhi hoon
sabke dilon mein shaamil bhi hoon

o ho o oh o ho o ho
o ho o oh o ho o ho

Aashiq hoon main
qaatil bhi hoon
sabke dilon mein shaamil bhi hoon
Aashiq hoon main
qaatil bhi hoon
sabke dilon mein shaamil bhi hoon
dil ko churaana,
neendein udaana
bas yahi mera kusoor
waadon se apne mukarta nahin
marne se main kabhi darta nahin
baadshah o baadshah,
baadshah hey baadshah
baadshah o baadshah,
baadshah

hae ae ae ae yo
hae yo

chaaron taraf hain mere hi charche
honthon pe hai bas mera naam
rangon bhari subah meri
masti mein doobi hai meri sham
jhoothi kahaani sacchi lage
aawargi mujhe achchi lage
nagmein sunaana
sabko nachaana
bas yahi mera kusoor
waadon se apne mukarta nahi
marne se mai kabhi darta nahi
baadshah o baadshah,
baadshah hey baadshah
baadshah o baadshah,
baadshah

ho o ho o ho o

hai yeh mohabbat kamzori meri
chaahat ki duniya pe mera raaz
bas rab ke aage jhukta mera sar
jhukte mere saamne takhto taaj
andaaz mera sabse juda
mein baadshahon kaa baadshah
sapne sajaana
hansna hasaana
bas yahi mera kusoor
waadon se apne mukarta nahin
marne se mai kabhi darta nahin
baadshah o baadshah
baadshah hey baadshah
baadshah o baadshah,
baadshah
baadshah o baadshah,
baadshah hey baadshah
baadshah o baadshah,
baadshah

Hullo to Atuldom

November 2nd is the birthday of a dear Atulite. A person who is very very important for Atuldom turns a year younger today. Without him there would be a lot of stress and strain on our dear Atulji when it comes to handling all the farmaishes and contributions that we Atulites keep sending and expect instant posting on the blog.

I have met him only once for a few hours and since then have often taken the liberty to pick up the phone and put all kinds of requests -from trying to speed up posts getting to the blog to asking help when my son and daughter visited Delhi. And he has never said a “NO”. Thank you so much Sudhirji. You are a true Dillwala Dilliwala. Wish you a very very Happy Birthday. Hope you have lots of time to be the co-poster of the blog. Hope you are able to find rare and hitherto unheard songs for all our collective listening pleasure. Hope you are able to find songs that rekindle memory of the radio listening days. Hope all your series find appropriate songs and you never run out of Mohd. Rafi songs. 🙂

Incidentally November 2nd also happens to be birthday of another Dilliwaala, viz SRK. SRK- Badshah also goes by the names Rahul, King Khan and occasionally Om Kapoor – I mean Shahrukh Khan. So, he has been around since 1988 entertaining his fans first on television in the serials Circus, Fauji and Dil Dariya and then burst on to the Bollywood firmament with the Hema Malini directed “Dil Aashna Hai” and Raj Kanwar directed “Deewana” which got him the best debutant award in 1993.

And since then he hasn’t looked back winning hearts and awards in his journey of 30 years in the entertainment industry. He has worn the hats of producer, IPL team co-owner, actor with ease and also tried his hand at singing. He has tried portraying villainous, romantic and comic characters with success as also played the lead in movies where he is a hockey coach (Chak De! India) or a person with Asperger Syndrome (My Name Is Khan). He is a complete entertainment package and here is wishing him all the best in life.

It is very difficult to choose a song that will showcase SRK’s energy and SK’s love for music. So, I have selected an SRK song which is one I enjoy and hope Sudhirji also likes. It is from a 21-year-old movie directed by Aziz Mirza- Yes Boss. It had Juhi Chawla and Aditya Pancholi as co-stars for SRK with Ashok Saraf, Johnny Lever, Gulshan Grover and Kashmira Shah in supporting roles. The song is an improvisation of a qawwali (my feeling). It is at a party hosted by Aditya Pancholi who runs an Ad agency and has his roving eye on all the models employed there. Juhi is also a model who is on his radar but SRK has taken it upon himself to shield her and has Johnny Lever and Ashok Saraf assisting him in his mission “shield a drunk Juhi from the BOSS”.

The song was written by Javed Akhtar, Jatin- Lalit were the music directors and Abhijeet Bhattacharya (was his birthday on October 30th, wishing him too although a little late)

Once again a very Happy Birthday to our Sudhirji.

Chorus

Lyrics

Chak chak
Chaka chakchak
Chak chak
Chaka chakchak

jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan
re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan
sun pyaare
sun pyaare
ruk ja re
ruk ja re
duniya ke bade tedhe medhe raaste
khatre hi khatre hain tere vaaste
jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan

duniya mein aajkal
aisi bhi loot hai
kehne ko pyaar hai
samjho toh jhoothh hai
dekh tu lutne laga
tera haath hai kis ke haathon mein
jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan

shaa la lalaa
sha la lalalalaa
turururu lalaa
shaa la lalaa
sha la lalalalaa
turururu lalaa

pyar ka karte hain jo shor
dhyaan hai tera jin ki oar
aa main bataaoon kaun hain woh
raat mein daaku din mein chor
jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan

haath main jodoon tore
padoon main balma tore painyaan
chhod ke tu mohe na ja
karoon main binti more sainyaan
ho sun le mori araj sajanwa
poochhe tohse mora manwa
o jaane waale ye to bata,
jaane waale ye to bata
jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan

jaane tu jo baat kahoon main ishaaron mein
haan ishaaron mein
bikte hain imaan yahaan baazaaron mein
baazaaron mein
anjaane
tu na jaane
koyi jaal phaila teri raahon mein hai
koyi baat hai jo meri baaton mein hai
tu ye jaan le baaton baaton mein
jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan

faisla tujhko aaj karna hai
doob jaana hai ya ubharna hai
uss taraf jhoothh hai dikhaawa hai
iss taraf pyaar ka bulaawa hai
uss taraf laalachi nigaahein hain
iss taraf mere dil ki raahein hain
jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan
sun pyaare
sun pyaare
ruk ja re
hey ruk ja re
duniya ke bade tedhe medhe raaste
khatre hi khatre hain tere vaaste

jaata hai tu kahaan
are re re re jaata hai tu kahaan
re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan
jaata hai tu kahaan

re baaba jaata hai tu kahaan

One thing that is common among all of us who follow this blog or films is that we are all fans of one or other star be it an actor or music director or lyricist or film maker or singer. Right? “Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli”(1971) was a V Shantaram Productions movie. It was produced and directed by V Shantaram movie. The movie had Ravindra, Vasant Parekh, Minal, Abhijeet, Vastala Deshmukh, Iftekhar, Sandhya, Dina Gandhi, Raja Paranjpe, Nanda, Birbal, Praveen Kumar, Sushant Ray etc in it.
