Aayi hai deewaali suno jee gharwaali

Posted on: November 13, 2012

It is often said that most festival songs that continue to be popular are several decades ago and that the festivals as well as the songs about them were no longer the same.

May be that is how it is. But then there could be an alternative view as well.

Take the festival of Deewaali for example. When I look at how this festival was celebrated then and how it is celebrated now, I find that the basic ingredients like lighting lamps, bursting crackers etc remain the same but their scale have changed and even the ingredients have been undergoing subtle changes.

I find that the real “diya”, viz the earthen “diya” are these days becoming extinct, with only a few of them visible, and that too for the sake of tradition. Now a days we have tiny bulbs arranged in a “jhaalar” replacing “diya”. And I also find an interesting cultural exchange taking place for the last few years. Indians have started using Chinese crackers and chinese style lamps which are quite different from their Indian counterparts. For instance, Chinese firecrackers stress more on colourfull display rather than on the volume of noise that the Indian fire crackers concentrate on.

One are in which the present day deewaali festivals have stolen a big march over the past have to do with the volume of Deewaali related shopping. Till 1970s, the shoppings used to be mainly for garments, sweets and crackers , and that too on a much smaller scale. The opening of Indian economy had not taken place and as such the Indian markets wore spartan looks and there were little for the shoppers to buy in the markets. In contrast, now a days people buy items that were non existent a few deacades ago. For instance, “dhanteras”, that takes place a couple of days before deewaali is a day when automobile industry in India sells the highest number of vehicles because this day is considered auspicious for big purchases like that. It is interesting to find vehicle owners going to the show rooms with their relatives as well as a “pandit ji” who would perform a “puja” on the vehicle at the show room before the vehicle is delivered. 🙂 The various sectors of Indian Industry register their biggest volumes of sale during these few days of the year, that is how important this festival is for the Indian economy.

On the occasion of “Deewaali”, here is a new age deewaali song. It is from “Aamdani Athanni Kharcha Rupaiyya” (2001). The song is sung by lots and lots of singers and actors viz. Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Sneha Pant and Ketki Dave. Likewise the song is picturised on many actors. Sudhakar Sharma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Himesh Reshamiya.

I take this opportunity to wish happy deewaali to one and all.

Lyrics

ara ra ra ra ra
o mere sajna
phataake phootne waala hai
de taali

aayi hai deewaali
suno ji ghar waali
aayi hai deewaali
suno ji ghar waali
tere kangne ne dil dhadkaaya hai
lage sajna mera
ara ra ra
lage sajna mera
ara ra ra
lage sajna mera aaj paglaaya hai
ho lage sajna mera aaj paglaaya hai
aayi hai deewali
suno ji ghar waali
tere kangne ne dil dhadkaaya hai
ara ra ra ra ra sajna paglaaya hai
ara ra ra ra ra sajna paglaaya hai

chaaron taraf
diye jal rahe
dekho ji dekho
ye kya keh rahe
kahin pe nigaahen
kahin pe nishaana
ham jaante hain
ye kissa puraana
na karo dillagi
chhoodo sataana
tu ye maane na maane
ham hain tere deewaane
dekho mausam muhabbat ka aaya hai
lage sajna mera
ara ra ra
lage sajna mera
ara ra ra
lage sajna mera aaj paglaaya hai
lage sajna mera aaj paglaaya hai

ho ho
ho ho ho ho
ho ho
ho ho ho ho
yaaron
meri maano
miyaa biwi ke rishte ko jaano
ho o o
pyaaron
o mere pyaaron
kya hai jeewan tum ye pehchaano
chhodo chodo chhodo takraar
kar lo kal lo kar lo pyaar
ho chaahe nakhrewaali
gharwaali hai gharwali
ho chaahe nakhrewaali
gharwaali hai gharwaali
saara sansaar ismein samaaya hai
lage sajna mera
ara ra ra
lage sajna mera
ara ra ra
lage sajna mera aaj paglaaya hai
ho lage sajna mera aaj paglaaya hai
aayi hai deewaali
suno ji gharwaali
tere kangne ne dil dhadkaaya hai
ara ra ra ra ra
sajna paglaaya hai
ara ra ra ra ra
sajna paglaaya hai
