“Chaudhvin Ka Chaand” (1960) was a Guru Dutt Pictures Production. It was directed by M Sadiq. The movie had Rehman, Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, Minoo Mumtaz, Mumtaz Begum, Pravin Paul, Naazi, Zebunissa, Uma Devi, Lata Sinha, Balam, Johnny Walker etc in it.

This movie was a musical blockbuster. The movie had ten songs in it. As many as nine of these songs have been discussed in the past. Here is the tenth and final song from this movie.

This song is sung by Rafi. It is picturised on Johny Walker and others.
Sudhir jee, in addition to pointing out correction in the lyrics, also provides details for the happenings in the picturisation. Here is what he points out:

The unknown male voice is of the actor SN Bannerjee himself. In the film, SN Bannerjee plays the role of Daroga Khan Saheb, father of Shaiza (role played by Johnny Walker). In this song, Shaiza is masqerading as a fakir, with a hidden camera. He is trying to get a photo of Jameela (role played by Waheeda Rehman), for his friend Nawab Sahib

Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

With this song, “Chandvin Ka Chaand” (1960) joins the list of movies whose songs are fully covered in the blog.

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

paanch chavanni ka sawaal hai baba
jo de uska bhi bhala
jo na de uska bhi bhala

ye duniya gol hai
oopar se khol hai
ye duniya gol hai
oopar se khol hai
andar jo dekho pyaare
bilkul polampol hai
ye duniya gol hai
oopar se khol hai
andar jo dekho pyaare
bilkul polampol hai
ye duniya gol hai
oopar se khol hai

jitne hain duniya waale
phirte hain jholi daale
koi muraad maange
koi aulaad maange
koi muhabbat chaahe
koi hukoomat chaahe
koi taqdeer maange
koi tasweer maange
ek photo ka sawaal hai baba
bey
kidhar hai

koi taqdeer maange
koi tasweer maange
sab ke galey mein bhaiyya
armaanon ka dhol hai
ye duniya gol hai
oopar se khol hai
andar jo dekho pyaare
bilkul polampol hai
ye duniya gol hai
oopar se khol hai

chaandi sona na maangoon
rupya paisa na maangoon
kholi bangla na maangoon
kapda latta na maangoon
ghoda gaadi na maangoon
kurta dhoti na maangoon
parwar digaar mere
uska deedaar de de
ek photo ka sawaal hai baba
bhej
ab tak nahin mila

parwar digaar mere
uska deedaar de de
jaldi milaa de
meri duniya daanwaadol hai
ye duniya gol hai
oopar se khol hai
andar jo dekho pyaare
bilkul polampol hai
ye duniya gol hai
oopar se
ye kahaan se
mar gaye
tune badlo
mere maula bulaa lo madeene mujhe
lagey maut ke aane paseene mujhe
mere
maula bulaa lo madeene isse
isse nahin baba mujhe
achcha beta achchaa
lambi umar ho
jaldi se lambe ho jaao

ye buddha gol hai
oopar se khol hai
andar jo dekho pyaare
bilkul polampol hai
ye duniya gol hai bhai

Atul ji,

Brief note about the lyrics.

He is trying to get a photo of Jameela (role played by Waheeda Rehman), for his friend Nawab Sahib (role played by Rehman). The setting is a local mela (fair), and it is expected that Jameela may visit with her friends.

There are two lines near the end of the song which are missing in the video clip, most likely a bad patch in the film reel from which this clip is digitized. The audio clip has the complete song. It is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QysGSaZ2aI.

Lyrics corrections.

The line – “itne hain duniya waale”
should be – “jitne hain duniya waale”

The line – “ek photo ka sawaal hai baba, ?? kidhar hai”
should be – “ek photo ka sawaal hai baba, bey. . . kidhar hai”
The word ‘bey’ is simply an expression, to address some one, (like ‘abey’).

The line – “leke maut ke aane paseene mujhe”
should be ; “lagey maut ke aane paseene mujhe”.

The missing lines are between
“lambi umar ho
oopar se khol hai”.

The completed lyrics in this part are
“lambi umar ho

jaldi se lambey ho jaao

ye buddhaa gol hai
oopar se khol hai”.
First two lines above are by Johnny Walker, the remaining two are Rafi.
