“Dhaake Ki Malmal” (1956) was a Nanda Films Production. It was directed by J K Nanda. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Madhubala, Ulhas, Sajjan, Raj Mehra, Rajen Haksar, Shyam Kumar, Jagdeep, Om Prakash etc in it. As many as four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
Today (28 january 2013) is the sixth death anniversary of O P Nayyar (16 january 1926- 28 january 2007). On this occasion, here is a song from “Dhaake Ki Malmal”(1956).
This song is sung by C H Atma. Saroj Mohini Nayyar (O P Nayyar’s spouse) is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.
This wonderful song, so untypical of O P Nayyar’s music composition style is quite soothing to the senses. Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

This song was composed by O P Nayyar, probably just before he migrated to Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1947 as NFS. The song was sung by Manmohan Krishna with a prelude, probably Kabir doha (couplet). O P Nayyar recorded about a dozen NFS duriing this period in the voices such as N L Puri, Ashok Khosla, Manmohan Krishna, Habib Wali Mohammed – all non-typical of O P Nayyar style.

One of the best songs Nayyarsaab ever composed. I think he had a special liking for voices resembling that of the great Saigal. Remember he composed some very beautiful nonfilmsongs by N L Puri, like lunar jam me milugi balsam, penned by his spouse, and Puri too sounded somewhat like Saigal. I had the fortune of talking with him on his last birthday,just a few days before his death. Long live Nayyarsaab.
