Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ae khuda har faisla tera mujhe manzoor hai

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

The greatest of all desert song, like ‘yeh duniya yeh mehfil'(Heer Ranjha) and ‘ae dil-e-naadaan’ (Razia Sultan), are already covered in this blog. Still there are some such songs remaining to be posted, so this quest of mine. Atul ji has magnanimously started a category of ‘desert’ song, for this series. So here is song no. 3 of this series.

This is from the film ‘Abdullah’ (1980), produced and directed by Sanjay Khan, who also played the hero with Zeenat Aman as heroine. Raj Kapoor also had an important role in the film. The story is in the Arabian desert. So the setting is perfect. This is sung by Kishore Kumar, with Anand Bakshi’s lyrics. And the music director is R D Burman. (While typing these essential details about a song, I feel like a radio announcer, except I have never heard the announcements in English 🙂

And I also noticed that the Rafi classic from this film ‘maine poochha chaand se” is also not covered. But that is not a desert song, so this genuine one fitting this category is being discussed first. Actually it is not a solo song because the call of ‘ Allah hu ‘, in between , appears to be in R. D. Burman’s voice. The name of the second singer is not mentioned anywhere that I could see. But my guess is that it is RDB only.

The situation here is that Zeenat Aman is Sanjay Khan’s wife and has suffered a miscarriage. So the song is desolate and accepting the decision of the Almighty. Sanjay Khan is singing this song of acceptance of God’s decree in the desert with only sand dunes and sky for company. In the distance, a mosque is also shown, which tells me that it is a studio setting and not on location. Zeenat Aman joins him after the first stanza.

Audio link of the song is also given which has a better sound. This song along with ‘main ne poochha chand se ‘ from this film are among the best of R. D. Burman. As for Kishore Kumar, I like his sad songs better than the romantic one’s, and a few comedy songs, like Meri pyaari bindu which has appeared in the blog recently. Right from Mere mehboob kayaamat hogi to Meri bheegi bheegi si (Anamilka) & to Dil aisa kisi ne mera toda & Hum bewafa hargiz na thhey & Manzilen apni jagah hai & O saathi re tere bina bhi kya jeena.

I would choose these sad songs to be best of Kishore Kumar.

Song-Ae khuda har faisla teraa mujhe manzoor hai (Abdullah)(1980) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

ae khuda har faisla teraa mujhe manzoor hai
ae khuda har faisla teraa mujhe manzoor hai
saamne tere teraa bandaa bahot majboor hai
ae khuda har faisla teraa mujhe manzoor hai
saamne tere teraa bandaa bahot majboor hai
Allaah hu oo oo

har duaa meri kisi deewaar se takra gayee ee
har duaa meri kisi deewaar se takra gayee
be-asar ho kar meri fariyaad waapas aa gayee
Allaah hu oo oo
iss zameen se aasmaan shaayad bahot hi door hai
saamne tere teraa bandaa bahot majboor hai

ek gul se to ujad jaate nahin phoolon ke baagh
ek gul se to ujad jaate nahin phoolon ke baagh
kya huaa toone bujhaa daala mere ghar ka chirag
Allaah hu oo oo
kam nahin hai roushni har shai mein teraa noor hai
saamne tere teraa bandaa bahot majboor hai
ae khuda har faisla teraa mujhe manzoor hai
saamne tere teraa bandaa bahot majboor hai

Hullo Nahmji
thanks for sending this song for the pleasure of v Atulites. i have been mentally trying out posts for this song for the last year and i am sure i would not have been able to come up such a good write up. this song belongs to a category of absolute favorites from Kishore Kumar on playlist. in fact the so called sad songs that u have mentioned (i will call them Mood songs) are from my personal playlist

Good to know that u like the post. As you said in the “sun sahiba sun” post, I also am a person with just a surface knowledge of things. Dont go in for research, and just like to write from the top of the head or whatever comes in mind.

To the list of sad song of KK, many more can be added like
kuchh to log kahenge – Amar Prem
mera jeewan kora kaaghaz – Kora kagaz

Prakshchandraji,

‘koyi hota jis ko apna’ & ‘dil aaj shayar hai’ are my firm favourites. I would have mentioned them in the write up , if they had come to mind.

Regards.

In my opinion, one of the best and grossly overlooked “Sad” song of Kishore Kumar is:

Aey Zindagi Hui Kahan Bhool from Naa-Mumkin (1988)

I must have heard this as it is from 1988. Will hear it in the evening at home.

Another of my favorite Sad song of Kishore Kumar:

I think 2 beautifull songs from Lamhe, are picturised on desert locations

“Ye lamhe, ye pal hum barso yaad karenge”-Hariharan(this song was not picturised fully on screen, I am not very sure, but I remember partially this song was picturised on some desert locations)
and

“morni baagaamaa bole aadhi raat maa”(Lata, Ila arun)

I don`t thinks these two songs are included in Atuldom.
