Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Manzilen apni jagah hain raaste apni jagah

Posted on: October 11, 2012

Today (11 october 2012) is Amitabh Bachchan’s 70th birthday. It is unbelievable how time flies. Even a movie like “Sharaabi” (1984) which I regard as a recent movie was released as many as 28 years ago !

By 1984, Amitabh Bachchan was already on the top for several years and his career had plateaued out, with downward movement being the only movement possible for him from that stage of his career.

“Sharaabi” (1984) had some lovely songs in it which are popular even today. I find that I have so far discussed only one song from this movie. Here is another song from the movie. It is sung by Kishore Kumar and it is picturised as a get together song on Amitabh Bachchan, with several other actors also visible in the picturisation including Deepak Parashar. And everyone acts shell shocked as is customary in a Hindi movie get together song. 🙂 Amitabh Bachchan also indulges in some flashback, reminiscing about his happier days with Jaya Prada.

Prakash Mehra is the lyricist. What a simple sounding and yet philosophical song he has written. Music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

song-Manzilen apni jagah hai raaste apni jagah (Sharaabi)(1984) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Prakash Mehra, MD-Bappi Lahiri

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)

hmm hmm hmm hmm
manzilon pe aake loot te
hai dilon ke caravaan
kashtiyaan saahil pe aksar
doobti hain pyaar ki

manzilen apni jahah hain
raaste apni jagah
manzilen apni jahah hain
raaste apni jagah
jab kadam hi saath na den
to musaafir kyaa kare
ae ae

yoon to hai hamdard bhi aur
hamsafar bhi hai mera
yoon to hai hamdard bhi aur
hamsafar bhi hai mera
badh ke koi haath na de
dil bhala phir kyaa kare
manzilen apni jahah hain
raaste apni jagah

doobne waale ko tinke ka sahaara hi bahut
dil bahal jaaye fakat
itna ishaara hi bahut
itne par bhi aasmaan waala gira de bijliyaan
koi batlaade zara
ye doobta phir kyaa kare
ae ae
manzilen apni jahah hain
raaste apni jagah

pyaar karna jurm hai to
jurm hamse ho gaya
kaabil e maafi hua karte nahin aise gunaah
tang dil hai ye jahaan aur sangdil mera sanam
kyaa kare josh e junoon aur hausla phir kyaa kare
manzilen apni jahah hain
raaste apni jagah
jab kadam hi saath na den
to musaafir kyaa kare
ae ae

yoon to hai hamdard bhi aur
hamsafar bhi hai mera
badh ke koi haath na de
dil bhala phir kyaa kare
ae ae ae

I always thought this song was credited to Prakash Mehra ? Though now Wiki says Anjaan, the copyright is with saregama, and I check and find it is credited to Prakash Mehra there too.

Lovely song, regardless. This was one of Kishore’s last award winners, I think.

Lyricist for this song is Prakash Mehra.

Jahan Char Yaar is jointly credited to Prakash Mehra & Anjaan.

Rest of the songs from the movie are written by Anjaan.

All 4 filmfare nominations for the best male singer of the year went to this movie for : Manzilen apni, Intehaan ho gayi, De De Pyar De and Mujhe Naulakha Manga De, with Manzilen winning the award for KK.

KK also won the award for Saagar Kinare after this one. Awards didnt take place in 86/87 and then he passed away.
