The Voice of Mukesh #25
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Continuing to follow the progress of Mukesh, as we see his development through the first decade of his career. The year is 1948. Having made a debut in 1942, by the end of 1947, Mukesh had to his credit already, 42 songs from 21 films. The first and significant turning point in his career was already behind him – the iconic “Dil Jaltaa Hai. . .”.

By the time 1948 ended, the name Mukesh was being associated, not just with songs alone. In 1948, along came the films ‘Aag’. ‘Anokhi Adaa’ and ‘Anokha Pyaar’. And now, the singer was becoming known for his association with films, and also the other way around. With the film ‘Aag’ came another song that would become a classic later on – “Zinda Hoon Is Tarah Ke Gham e Zindagi Nahin”. And now, by 1948, the name Mukesh was being associated with a small, but unique body of work, that would be the start of a following. The name Mukesh now began to have a fan following of its own.

This year saw the release of the film, ‘Toote Taare’. The film is a social drama, produced under the banner of Omar Khayyam Films, Bombay and is directed by Harish. The star cast of the film includes Sheikh Mukhtar, Shamim, Kanhaiya Lal, Mridula, Putlibai, Murad, Sudhir, Babu, S Ghosh, Sultan, Sharif, Kanchan Kumar, Anwaribai, Laddan, Agha Dehlavi. The film has 8 songs, written by two lyricists –Anjum Pilibhiti and Rafiq Ajmeri. However, the specific information of which song is written by which poet, is not available. The music direction is by Shaukat Ali, also known as Nashaad.

The film has two songs by Mukesh, both are duets with Geeta Roy (later Geeta Dutt). Today, the second of these duets finds its place on this blog. This here is another such an endearing duet – an exchange between the lovers. The feelings of love have now reached that point, that the beloved now seems to be present nearby, each and every moment of the day. The presence of the other is felt everywhere – in the flowers, in the mirror, in the stars, and everything else. A lovely duet of expressions of love, sung so beautifully by Mukesh and Geeta ji. Enjoy.

Lyrics

rehte ho ab to har ghadi
rehte ho ab to har ghadi
meri nazar ke saamne
meri nazar ke
meri nazar ke saamne
aankhon se dil mein aa gaye
ho o o
ho o o
aankhon se dil mein aa gaye
dil se nazar ke saamne
dil se nazar ke
dil se nazar ke saamne

rehte ho ab to har ghadi

phoolon mein hans rahe ho kya
aa aaa aaa aaa aaa
khushboo mein bas rahe ho kya
khushboo mein
khushboo mein bas rahe ho kya
aaa aa aa aa

aankhen bichha rahe hain
aankhen bichha rahe hain hum

aaao nazar ke saamne
aaao nazar ke
aaao nazar ke saamne
rehte ho ab to har ghadi

aaine mein
chiraagh mein

taaron mein
maahtaab mein
taaron mein
maahtaab mein
kis kis tarah se aaye ho
kis kis tarah se aaye ho

o o o o
meri nazar ke saamne
meri nazar ke
meri nazar ke saamne
rehte ho ab to har ghadi

nazron mein mere aaye naa aaa aaa
aa aa aa
aaine pe
aaine pe nazar meri
ee ee ee ee

donon nazar se door door
donon nazar se door door
donon nazar ke saamne
donon nazar ke
donon nazar ke saamne
rehte ho ab to har ghadi
rehte ho ab to har ghadi
meri nazar ke saamne
meri nazar ke
meri nazar ke saamne
rehte ho ab to har ghadi
