Chaand mera dil chaandni ho tum

Posted on: August 2, 2013

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Here is the third Rafi solo beginning with the alphabet ‘C’. And what is better than C for ‘chaand’. The hit song from ‘ Ham kisi se kam nahin ‘ (1977) is composed by R D Burman and written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The iconic song in this film Kya hua tera waada is already posted. One more song viz. Ye ladka haaye allah kaisa hai deewaana has also been posted. I have just revisited that page.

Unlike Raja ji, I have not seen this movie is theatre. And in 1977 I was actually frightened of watching movies in Theatre. My mother tells me that she had to really beat me to get me to go along to watch the movie ‘Rani aur lalpari’. That year was 1975, and I can imagine my parents predicament as they couldn’t leave a small child alone at home. The tickets must have been already booked, and the cost even if it was only Rs. 2 or 3, was dear than. Moreover, it was a children’s movie, so the purpose of that outing had to be to entertain the kids, including me. I did manage to stay alone at home as everyone went to see ‘ Muqaddar ka Sikandar'(1978). Things had changed by 1980 and I remember watching ‘Do aur do paanch’ in theatre.

So this is my experience of not watching ‘Ham kisi se kam nahin ‘ in a cinema hall. Alternately it must have been on Cable TV, that I finally saw this movie and on T V too some years ago.

‘Chaand mera dil’ is the first song of the song and dance competition, between Taariq Hussain and Rishi Kapoor. This movie had all the ingredients of a Nasir Hussain entertainer, with sensational music. Nasir Hussain seems to have switched from O.P. Nayyar to R. D. Burman, taking no chances with other old and newer Music Directors like, S.D. Burman, Naushad, L-P, K-L etc. Only diversion being ‘Jab pyar kisi se hota hai’ with Shankar-Jaikishan and that was before he made a successful team with O.P.Nayyar.

So presenting one of my firm favourite Rafi solo’s. One can keep hearing it again and again and never want to stop.

Song-Chaand mera dil chaandni ho tum (Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin)(1977) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman

chaand meraa dil
chaandni ho tum
chaand se hai door
chaandni kahaan
laut ke aana
hai yahin tum ko
jaa rahe ho tum
jaao meri jaan

waise to har qadam
milenge log sanam
milegaa sachchaa pyaar mushkil se
ho o o
dil ki dosti
khel nahin koyi
dil se dil hai miltaa yaar mushkil se
yahi to hai sanam
pyaar ka thikaanaa
main hoon
main hoon
main hoon
chaand meraa dil
chaandni ho tum
chand se hai door
chaandni kahaan
laut ke aana
hai yahin tum ko
jaa rahe ho tum
jaao meri jaan
jaao meri jaan
jaao meri

Haha, good one, nahmji.

I got reminded of my experience of seeing this movie.

Lovely song. I loved the 4-song competition. So much fun!

Fond memories. Thank you for reviving them.

Nice post Nahm ji !! Songs of this movie were very popular then and the movie was also entertaining, a typical of the seventies.
All Rafi Saab’s song from this movie are special (for us who grow in seventies) and I like them very much. They bring back those special memories of school days.
thanks !

I think its the shortest full song sung by Rafi
