Ghalat hai loot liya mil ke husn waalon ne

I am quite fond of using phrases like “musical bandwagon”, “online collaboration”, “likeminded music lovers”, “labour of love” etc while discussing our activities in this blog. If we take a pause and reflect on what we are doing in this blog, we will realise that the kind of exchange of ideas, information, knowledge, wisdom, and pooling of resources that continuously takes place is simply mindboggling. It is not a case of I taking the lyrics of a song sent by a contributor and posting it just like that. Considerable background work is often involved in posting articles. In some cases, the background story behind the writing of the article itself makes for interesting reading.

With passage of time, this blog has become an online collaboration of like minded music lovers. This has been made possible by the miracle that internet is, and the internet organisations like Google, YT, FB, WordPress etc are. We in this blog are not just confined with ourselves. We also exchange information with other likeminded music lovers across internet. These likeminded music lovers are found in other blogs, and increasingly in facebook groups. I have mentioned it in one of my earlier articles that I was a slow adopter when it came to facebook. It is only a few days back that I opened facebook page and group of this blog. Before that, I was gradually getting used to facebook by joining a few groups that discuss Hindi movie music. It was a nice feeling to know that the people running these facebook groups often knew me and had nice words to say about the blog. I on my part would mostly learn by reading the contents of these groups and would participate only sometimes. Like me, other regulars of this blog too are members of several other sites, facebook groups etc and all this interaction is extremely useful.

Interaction in this blog and in other sites etc often leads to interactions on e mail, on phone, and even personal meetings. I have met some three or four regulars of the blog and I have interacted through e mail and phone with a few more. These interactions have invariably led to extremely fruitful discussions and that have set the tone for some fresh inputs and approaches in the blog.

Like me, others too have met and/ or interacted with many others. For instance, regulars like Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, Raja, Sudhir ji, or Khyati Bhatt etc. have met and /or interacted with many more people than me.

Two days back, I had a telephonic conversation with Khyati Bhatt. The discussion covered a surprisingly wide range of topics in a very small period of time as always happens when she talks to me. During the discussion, she asked me about the priorities that I set for myself while discussing songs. I replied that there were several priorities, viz. (a) posting songs from movies that had just a few songs left so as to cover all songs from these movies, (b) to discuss songs of artists during their anniversaries, (c) to post songs of artists who have not yet reached their maiden centuries in the blog, (d) to discuss all available songs of artists who have relatively less number of songs under their names (e) to cover songs sent by the contributors etc etc. In fact there were several priorities and the choice of songs often depended on a day to day basis, I concluded.

What about giving discussing songs from movies that have not yet been represented in the blog- she asked. It was a very good suggestion. The blog has so far covered songs from around 2600 movies, and there have been around 6000 movies in all from 1931 to 1980, and so adding up the songs from as yet missing movies would be a great idea, I told her. So she told me that she would in future send songs from such missing movies, at the rate of one song per movie, beginning from the letter A, and beginning from 1961.

Next day, she sent me the lyrics from “Anarbala” (1961). She informed me that “Anarbala” (1961) was alphabetically the second mising movie from 1961 in the blog, the first being “Aflatoon” (1961), but she had failed to get any songs of “Aflatoon” (1961) anywhere on internet.

I decided to put my new found facebook knowledge to use. In a facebook group discussing rare songs, I put up my query whether anyone in the group had any songs from “Aflatoon” (1961). That group had lots of renowned music collectors. Less than one hour later, one of them (Aditya Pant) had uploaded a song from this movie. I eagerly downloaded it and listened to it.

I found that the song “Ghalat hai loot liya milke husnwaalon ne” was an unabashed rip off from the famous song, Hamen to loot liya mil ke husn waalon ne (Al Hilaal)(1958)“which was posted as the 5000th song of this blog just over two years ago. And it turns out that this was not the first occasion that this famous “Al Hilaal” (1958) song was copied. Just one year later, the venerable Hemant Kumar had composed Galat hai loot liya tumko husnwaalon ne (Chaand(1959).

The lyrics of this “Aflatoon” (1961) song is in fact more similar to the “Chaand” (1959) song than the “Al Hilaal” (1958) song. So one can say that this song is a copy of copy of the original. 🙂

What about the other songs from the movie? Were they available, and if this song was an indication, were the other songs of this movie also parodies of well known songs ?

Another renowned songs collector, Mr Girdharilal Vishwakarma informed in that FB post that only one record of “Aflatoon” (1961) was issued and that contained this song. The reverse side of the record had the second part of this same qawwali. Records of other songs of this movie were not made, and so those songs are lost alongwith the prints of this movie, which are surely lost by now. So now we have no way to find out which of these songs parodied which other songs. My guess is that another song from this movie, that went “tu hawwa ki beti aur main aadam ka beta”must have been a parody of “Tu Ganga ki mauj main jamuna ki dhaara” from “Baiju Bawra”. 🙂 Alas ! we will never know, unless some one who may have seen this movie may recall the details of songs from this movie.

The details of this movie are quite sketchy. As per HFGK, this movie was produced by New Filmzaar, Bombay and was directed by Basu and Doughlas. There were five songs in this movie and all were written by Niaz Usmani and composed by S. Kishan. No information is known about the singers. Artists of this movies were Kamran, Krishan Kumari, Habib, Hira Sawant etc.

Now, thanks to such online collaboration among lots of likeminded music lovers spread throughout the world, this movie “Aflatoon” (1961) finally gets represented in the blog, but only by the skin of the teeth, since this is the sole surviving song from this movie and that too has come to light only because we requested for an “Aflatoon” (1961) song in a facebook group. My thanks to all those who made it possible for this song to come to light.

I am happy that another rare movie makes its appearance in the blog with this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie.

Here is this song from “Aflatoon” (1961). It is sung by an unknown female singer accompanied by female chorus. As mentioned, Niaz Usmani is credited as the lyricist and S Kishan as the music director, not that any music lovers will get fooled by this.

Song-Ghalat hai loot liya mil ke husnwaalon ne(Aflatoon)(1961) Singer- Unknown Female voice, Lyrics-Niaz Usmani, MD-S Kishan
Chorus

Lyrics

ghalat hai loota tumhen mil ke husnwaalon ne
gorey gorey gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne
ghalat hai loota tumhen mil ke husnwaalon ne
gorey gorey gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne

na socha tumne kabhi manzil e mohabbat mein
sitam haseenon ne kya kya uthhaaye ulfat mein
mita di apni jawaani tumhaari chaahat mein
kiye na shiqwe magar lut gaye sharaafat mein
sawaal hamse karoge agar qayaamat mein
to ham bhi keh denge
Allah ki adaalat mein
ghalat hai loota tumhe mil ke husnwaalon ne
gore gore gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne
ghalat hai loota tumhen mil ke husnwaalon ne
gore gore gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne

ajab hai kehna tumhaara pari jamaalon se
ke hamko loot liya hai bade kamaalon se
tapak rahi hai sharaarat tumhaari chaalon se
khuda bachaaye tumhen in bure khayaalon se
agar karoge koi baat husnwaalon se
yehin jawaab milega nazar ke pyaalon se
ghalat hai loota tumhen mil ke husnwaalon ne
gorey gorey gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne
ghalat hai loota tumhen mil ke husnwaalon ne
gorey gorey gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne

jahaan kahin nazar aaye haseen se chehre
wahin pe aapne apne laga diye dere
kabhi to marne lage aap unke baalon par
huye nisaar kabhi unke surkh gaalon par
bura bhala jo haseenon ko aap kehte ho
na jaane kaun si dhun mein janaab rehte ho
ghalat hai loota tumhen mil ke husnwaalon ne
gorey gorey gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne
ghalat hai loota tumhen mil ke husnwaalon ne
gorey gorey gaalon ne
kaale kaale baalon ne

I have, as always, eagerly gone through your blog, appreciate your painstaking effort and ‘labour of love’. Yes, it is really a good idea to discuss songs from movies that have not yet been represented. This is going to be a great job and would go a long way to dig them from their graves and revive.

The above HMV emblem reminds me the quiz I had created in our Engg College days: What is the gender of the dog crooning in the megaphone? Anyone out there?

Nitin ji,

I always knew H stood for “His”.
Anyway, there is a dedicated wiki page on the dog “Nipper”.

Thanks.

The other Aflatoon songs:

Aankh Mili Dil Dhadak Gaya
Tu Hawa Ki Beti Aur Mai Aadam Ka Beta already mentioned above

Here’s the film story:
Aflatoon is the story of a happy-go-lucky young man Raja(Akshay) who roams about the town along with his friends without doing any work. His carefree habits are the sole cause of worry to his old mother whom Raja keeps giving false hopes that one day he shall become a very very big man-rich enough to offer mother her meal on a golden platter, and she pacifies herself with sweet dreams. . Raja counsels with his friends the get-quick-rich formula-to get married to a girl-and pursues his mission with eyes and ears open, till one day he comes across an accident implicating a prospective candidate for the job of a college lecturer. In the melee Raja grabs the file containing all the documents and bio data plus the appointment letter. He gets the brain waive and he charges straight for the college. Mr.Raja becomes college Prof. . He breaks the good news to his friends saying all girl-students in the college are millionaires. Now to pick up the richest and only daughter of her parents, he manages to steal the admission forms of the student and finds the right girl, the daughter of a muti millionaire uday Prakash. Raja manages to entice the girl Pooja (Urmilla) and in the make-believe love drama, he himself gets involved emotionally. . Pooja takes Raja to introduce to her father, and so seeing Raja he is taken aback, and he takes Raja aside to privately tell him that he is ditto look-alike of a bully named Rocky who has been black mailing him constantly for years. Uday Prakash pleads Raja to save him from this harrowing menace. Raja agrees to help it in order to win the hands of Pooja in matrimony. . Raja takes full advantage of being look-alike of Rocky and tries to learn all the secrets of his operation. Now Raja becomes a menace and threat to romantic alliance of Rocky and his girl friend Sonia. He meets Sonia in the guise of Rocky to learn all the strings. Rocky gets baffled when he learns the truth about Raja going about in the guise of Rocky. Rocky traps Raja as captive and he himself plays the game of being Raja.

Missing word :

na socha tumne kabhi ‘ manzil-e-mohabbat ‘ mein

The title of the song also needs to be corrected to :

ghalat hai ‘ loota tumhen ‘ mil ke husnwaalon ne
