The Voice of Mukesh #50
– – – – – – – – – – – – –
Continuing with the exploration of Mukesh’s songs, we are now traversing the year 1950. Today I present a very soothing bhajan from the film ‘Ram Darshan’. A very softly and simply sung bhajan, that takes on a very emotional colour, being rendered in the soulful voice of Mukesh.
The film is a production by Ram Krishan Pictures, Bombay, and it is directed by Ramesh Gupta. The cast of actors includes Mridula, Bharat Bhushan, Shashi Kapoor (Sr.), Sheila Naik, Baby Tara, Lakshman, Ramkrishna Chaubey, Tribhuwan Sinha, Kamlesh Thakar, Om Prakash Vyas, Shapurji, Aathwale and others.
There are 16 songs in all in this film, and all have been written by Ramesh Gupta himself. Interestingly, there are four music directors who have worked on this film to compose the music for these sixteen songs. The names of the music directors are Shankar Rao Vyas, Ram Ganguly, DC Dutt, Shantilal Shah, and MD duo of Rij Ram-Balmukund.
This song is composed by DC Dutt. The name Rij Ram-Balmukund is new for me. As I tried to search the Geet Kosh for other films for them, I could locate just one more film, ‘Mera Geet’ from 1946, where this duo appears as music directors.
The bhajan tells about the mesmerizing powers of the illusions of this creation. The Lord has brought into being this creation through his Yogmaaya or simply Maaya. This creation is such that whatever IS (the Truth, the Reality) appears as if it IS NOT, and whatever is IS NOT (the Truth, the Reality) appears to be as if IT IS. This is a web of false impressions that bewilders and consumes the mortals, with most of us not even realizing that we are trapped in it. It is only the Grace of the Almighty that we can come to the realization of what the Reality is.
Listen to this soft and simple bhajan, sung with such deep emotion of supplication by Mukesh. Listen and wonder about the Reality.
Song-Dekh ke teri maaya prabhu mera man lalchaaya (Ram Darshan)(1950) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Ramesh Gupta, MD-D C Dutt
Lyrics
dekh ke teri maaya prabhu mera mann lalchaaya
dekh ke teri maaya prabhu mera mann lalchaaya
koi raao koi rank bhikaari
kahin dhoop kahin chhaaya
koi raao koi rank bhikaari
kahin dhoop kahin chhaaya
rang rangeeli srishti teri
maanav phirey bhulaaya
prabhu mera mann lalchaaya
dekh ke teri maaya prabhu
mera mann lalchaaya
satya marg ko bhool gaya main
dekh ke kanchan kaaya aa
satya marg ko bhool gaya main
dekh ke kanchan kaaya aa
nain khuley tab lagaa sochne
kya khoya kya paaya
prabhu mera mann lalchaaya
dekh ke teri maaya prabhu
mera mann lalchaaya
apne roop ki chhavi dikhlaa do
abhilasha hai darsh karaa do
apne roop ki chhavi dikhlaa do
abhilasha hai darsh karaa do
gyaan ki jyot jalaa do mann mein ae
gyaan ki jyot jalaa do mann mein
sharan tumhaari aaya
prabhu mera mann lalchaaya
dekh ke teri maaya prabhu
mera mann lalchaaya
