“”Pukaar” (1939) was produced and directed by Sohrab Modi. The movie was about the mughal emperor Jahangeer. The movie had Chandramohan in the title role of Jahangeer with Naseem Bano playing Noorjahaan. The movie also had Sohrab Modi, Sheela, Sardar Akhtar, Sadiq Ali, Jillo, Maya Devi, Shakir, Ghulam Hussain, A B Ramesh, Kusum, Ram Apte, G M Das, Babu Singh etc in it.
Kamal Amrohi (17 january 1918-11 february 1993), who wrote the story and lyrics of this song was born this day 96 years ago. It is interesting to realise that he was only twentyone year old when “Pukaar”(1939) was released.
On the occasion of Kamal Amrohi’s birth anniversary, here is a song from “Pukaar”(1939). The song is sung by Menaka. It is lip synced by an actress playing a maid servent of Noorjahaan who sings this song for the empress. My guess is that it is Sardar Akhtar who lip syncs this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.
