“Shakti” (1948) was directed by S I Hassan for Greater Bombay Pictures production. The movie had Karan Dewan, Suraiyya, Kailash, Sofia, Maya Devi, Seeta Bose, Cuckoo, Mumtaz Ali, Murad etc in it.
One song from this movie has been discussed in the past. Here is the second song from the movie.
This song is sung by Suraiyya. Only the audio of this song is available but it is clear that the song is picturised on her as well.
Asad Jafri is the lyricist. Azam Baig and Ramprasad Sharma were the music directors of this movie.
Listening to this delightful song makes one feel that one has heard a similar sounding song before, and then one realises that this song is reminiscent of the classic song from “Pyaar Ki Jeet” (1948) viz. Tere nainon ne chori kiyaa mera chhota sa jiya pardesiya. The singer is common in both the songs and even the lyrics contain similar sounding and rhyming words like “jiya”, “pardesiya” etc.
I am sure there must be some story behind the similarities of the two songs. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter.
Similarities notwithstanding, this song is a nice song to listen to on its own.
