“Neeli” (1950) was directed by Ratibhai Punatar for Ranjit Films Company. The movie had Dev Anand, Suraiya, Agha, Shyama, Dulari, Cuckoo etc in it.
Six songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the seventh song from the movie. Surjit Sethi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S Mohinder, though people using myswar will be confused by the information that the music director is someone called S Manohar.
This song is sung by Suraiyya. Only the audio of this song is available but it is clear that the song is picturised on Suraiyya herself.
This song is the 254th Suraiyya song in the blog. Suraiyya has sung some 306 songs in all in Hindi movies. It means that just over 50 more Suraiyya songs are left to be covered in the blog. I am sure that majority of these leftover songs will be available. But the main task would be to first list out the remaining songs and then search for them.
For today’s song, I had to search for movies where Suraiyya had lent her voice and then hoped to loacte an as yet undiscussed Suraiyya song. I managed to locate one such song from “Neeli” (1950). All Suraiyya songs from this movie are now covered so I will have to look for some other movies to locate leftover Suraiyya songs.
I am not aware of any online list of Suraiyya songs (unlike Rafi or Talat Mehmood or Mukesh songs) so it is going to be a time consuming process. If our knowledgeable readers are aware of any list of Suraiyya songs then I request them to bring that list to my knowledge.
