“Taara” (1949) was directed by RD Parineeja for the ambitiously named New Bombay Theatres production. The main cast of actors includes Shyama, Jawahar Kaul, Kuldip, Majnu, Nayantara, Chand Burque etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie. This song is sung by Geeta Dutt. Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Vinod.
The song is about the plight of the ghareeb. Ghareeb (poor) were loved by Hindi movies of the past. 🙂 Even today, ghareebs are loved by political parties, especially during election time. In the past there have been slogans like “Ghareebi hataao” (abolish poverty) but instead ghareebi seems to have grown at a faster rate than the national economy. Super power we may never become, but “Super Poor” we will always be.
Here is this song in which a ghareeb remonstrates with the almighty and enquires rhetorically how long the rich will play with the sentiments of the poor. The simple answer is that God has no satirfactory answer to that query as yet.
