“Mughal e Azam” (1960) was produced and directed by K Asif. This partially color movie (as used to be the standard description of movies those then) had Prithviraj kapoor, Madhubala, Dilp Kumar, Durga Khote, Nigar Sultana, Ajit, Kumar, Murad, Jillobai, Sheila Dalaya, Vijaylaxmi, S Nazir etc in it.
Thus movie turned out to be a hitrionic blockbuster as well as a musical blockbuster. As many as eleven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. That leaves one more song from this song to be discussed.
The one song that remains to be discussed was a classical song in Raag Raageshwari which was sung by Ustaad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, described as the Tansen of the 20th century by music experts.
This song does not have too much in it by way of lyrics, but whatever it has is not easy to note down. I have not been able to note down the lyrics to my satisfactor (for instance the sargam portion). I request our readers with keener ears to point out the corrections/ fill in the missing words in the lyrics.
Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.
With this song, “Mughal e Azam” (1960) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

He was dead against singing this song or any filmi song. So when he was coerced to sing he quoted an astronomical figure of Rs 25,000.00 for singing and Asif readily agreed for 2 songs another being prem jogan banke

I have a doubt… why do most of the available songs from this movie seem like they have been digitally enhanced? I am not a fan of these digitally enhanced versions :(.
