First came “Mother India”(1957) and then came “Son Of India”(1962). Both were produced by Mehboob Khan. Title role in Mother India was played by Nargis whereas the titkle role in “Son of India” was played by Sajid Khan. This Sajid Khan is different from the Sajid Khan that we are familiar with. This Sajid Khan was an adopted son of Mehboob Khan and he acted not only in “Son of India”(1962) but in “Mother India”(1957) as well, playing child version of Sunil Dutt in “Mother India”(1957).
The most well known song of “Son of India”(1962) was the iconic children’s song Nanha munna rahi hoon desh ka sipaahi hoon. This song was sung by Shanti Mathur and it was picturised on Sajid Khan.
I am one of those people who are not aware of any other songs of Shanti Mathur other than that iconic song. I have come to know only just now that she had sung another song in the movie.
Here is this other Shanti Mathur song from “Son of India”(1962). This song, a light hearted song is picturised on Sajid Khan as a roadside song where people throng to watch him perform. Sajid Khan is shown singing this song at various tourist spots of Bombay (now Mumbai). It is interesting to see the famous locations of Bombay as they were half a century ago and compare them from what these locations look like now.
This song is penned by Shakeel Badayuni. Music is composed by Naushad.
Song-Insaan thha pehle bandar (Son of India)(1962) Singer-Shanti Mathur, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad
Lyrics
kehte the ustaad hamaare
naam thha jinka machhandar
insan thha pehle bandar
insan thha pehle bandar
insaan thha pehle bandar
insaan thha pehle bandar
lambi dum waale thhe saare
apni paavnon ke andar
insaan thha pahle bandar
insaan thha pahle bandar
come along
na koi john thha
na koi abdul
na koi thha gopal
sabki soorat ek jaisi thhi
ek thhi sabki chaal
ek thhi sabki chaal
nange phirte thhe jangal mein
banke mast kalandar
insaan thha pahle bandar
insaan thha pahle bandar
kehte thhe ustad hamaare
naam thha jinka machhandar
insaan thha pehle bandar
insaan thha pehle bandar
????
kaam kiya ye pehla humne
ban gaye jab insaan
mitti ke do chaar gharon mein
baant diye bhagwaan
baant diye bhagwaan
kisi ne khola uncha girja
kisi ne masjid mandar
insaan thha pehle bandar
insaan thha pehle bandar
lambi dum waale thhe saare
apni paanvon ke andar
insaan thha pahle bandar
insaan thha pahle bandar
????
bhool gaye sab ek dooje ko
ban ke aadamzaat
kaise kaise jaal mein phans gayi
bandar ki aulaad
bandar ki aulaad
koi bana hai aaj bhikhaari
koi aaj sikandar
insaan thha pehle bandar,
insaan thha pehle bandar
kahte thhe ustad hamare,
naam thha jinka machhandar
insan tha pehle bandar
insan tha pehle bandar

I think this Sajid khan also played a leading role in a film of early 70s. Kiran kumar was also a co-star in that movie. I had forgotten the name & other details of this film! Can you find the name of the movie?
