“Aamne Saamne”(1967) was produced and directed by Suraj Prakash. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri, Karan Dewan, Rajendranath, Shammi, Kamal Kapoor etc in it.
Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. These songs were picturised on the lead pair of Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore.
Here is the fifth and final song from the movie. Unlike the other songs of the movie, this song is picturised on Rajendranath and Shammi Aunty who apparently played servants of Sharmila Tagore in the movie.
In Hindi movies, love songs sung by lead pair are considered romatic songs whereas love songs picturised on actors playing lesser roles are sought to be presented as comedy songs. I do not agree though. To me all characters, and not just the lead pair, have the right to sing romantic songs and they should be treated as such.
This song is mentioned as sung by Shammi aunty and Manna Dey. Listening to the song, it is clear that the song is a Manna Dey solo for all practical purposes. It cannot be called a duet just because Shammi Aunty utters a few monosyllables in the song.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
I have not been unable to get a word right in the lyrics that I have marked with ??. I request our readers with keener ears to tell us what word this could be. Other corrections in the lyrics may also be pointed out.
With this song, “Aamne Saamne”(1967) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Lyrics
suno
o go suno
hey
ankhiyaan na churaa o baalma
ankhiyaan na churaa o baalma
ho
saanu chhadhke na jaa o zaalima
na tod najariya ki dor ko
to phir pachhtaayega
jo maine dil de diya
kisi aur ko
ankhiyaan na churaa o o baalma
saanu chhadhke na jaa o o zaalima
dil ka sheesha toot na jaaye
toot na jaaye
toot na jaaye
haaye
dil ka sheesha toot na jaaye
aashiq tera roothh na jaaye
daaman na chhudaa aaaa
aa aa aa aa
daaman na chhudaa o baalma
saanu chhadhke na jaa o zaalima
na tod najariya ki dor ko
to phir pachhtaayega
jo maine dil de diya kisi aur ko
ankhiyaan na churaa o baalma
saanu chhadhke na jaa o zaalima
agge thhaam jo
chhod
thham thhaam
chhod chhod
main dil waapas le jaaunga
le jaaunga
le jaaunga
haaye
main dil waapas le jaaunga
dard tujhe wo de jaaunga
nahin jiski dawaa aaaa
haaye ae ae
nahin jiski dawa
o baalma
saanu chhadhke na jaa o o zaalima
na tod najariya ki dor ko
to phir pachhtaayega
jo maine dil de diya
kisi aur ko
ankhiyaan na churaa o baalma
saanu chhadhke na jaa o zaalima
qismat mein thha tujhpe marna
tujhpe marna
tujhpe marna
haaye
qismat mein thha tujhpe marna
kya rakhha hai tujhmein warna
kuchh hai to bata aaaaa
aaa aaa aaa aaa
kuchh hai to bata aaaaa
o baalma
saanu chhadhke na jaa o zaalima
na tod najariya ki dor ko
to phir pachhtaayega
jo maine dil de diya
kisi aur ko
ankhiyaan na churaa o o baalma
saanu chhadhke na jaa o o zaalima

“?? chhadhke na jaa o zaalima”
The missing word is “Sanu”, which is a Punjabi word meaning “me”. The meaning of the line is “Don’t go leaving me”.
