Today (18 february 2016) is the birth anniversary of Nimmi (DoB 18 february 1933). Sri Lanka Broadcasting Service honoured Nimmi by playing solo songs picturised on her in “Film sangeet” and duet songs picturised on her in the “Puraani Filmon Ke Geet” programme today.
One of the duets songs played was “Phir milne ka zamaane” from Danka (1954). This song is sung by Shamshad Begam and Asha Bhonsle. Jaan Nisaar Akhtar is the lyricist. Aziz Hindi is the music director.
The announcer Ms. Padmini Perera asked the listeners to guess the actors on whom this song was picturised.
Video of this song does not seem to be available. So the only way one can know how this song was picturised is through people who have watched the movie. One knowledgeable reader responded by informing that this song was picturised on Nimmi and Mohana.
So here is this lovely duet song from “Danka”(1954). This movie was directed by J P Advani for Goodwill Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Amarnath, Nimmi, Mohana, Sundar, Hiralal, Neelam, Shivraj, Uma Devi, Roop Kumar, Om Prakash etc in it.
The movie makes its debut in the blog with this song.

Atul ji,
For me too, it is a nostalgic song which I used to hear on the radio in my childhood days. But I lost track of it until today.

Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

This was one of the most popular songs during 1954-55 from film “Danka” (Nimmi Fame Movie of those days), and it used to be on every ones lips. It used to give an altogether peculiar sensation to your ears because of its fast rhythm and fast wordings. Because of its fast movements, we as school children were not able to pick up many of the wordings correctly. I remember that many woman beggars used to sing this song while begging on roads (Obviously, they also used to utter some incorrect wordings). However, suddenly we lost track of this song, and it became a forgotten song.
Now Atul Ji has posted this song and all our nostalgic memories were awakened with a flash, may be after a gap of say more than 50 Years.
