Atul ji’s 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 4
——————————————————————–

कर्मणये वाधिकारस्ते मां फलेषु कदाचन ।
मां कर्मफलहेतुर्भू: मांते संङगोस्त्वकर्मणि ।।
Karmanye aadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachan
Ma karmaphalheturbhu maate sangostavakarmani

[You have a right to perform your duties but without any expectation.  You have no right to the fruits of your works. Let yourselves be not attached to inaction.]

I used to remember this shloka (verses) during the telecasting of ‘Mahabharat’ on TV. In the recent period, I have once again started recalling this shloka as I find this shloka apt for Atul ji! He has been doing his karma (duties) of posting Hindi film and non-film songs faithfully since the inception of the Blog on July 19, 2008 without expectation of any kind of rewards.

In the sphere of blogging, 10000 posts appearing on one blog on one subject by Atul ji may be a record of some sort. If I take a modest estimate of say 300 words per post, 10000 posts translate to a total words of 30,00,000 (30 lakhs), that is more than five times the word count of the English edition of Leo Tolstoy’s novel ‘War and Peace’. Surely, this milestone is worthy of a grand celebration.

Atul ji started this Blog as one of his interests where he could express his admiration of certain Hindi film songs that he loves. When did his interest turned into a passion? It is not difficult to guess if one goes by the monthly statistics of the songs covered in the Blog. In less than a year from the date of starting this Blog, the daily average number of songs discussed in it, significantly exceeded the original intent of discussing at least one song a day. Now it was not the interest but the passion that was on work.

Over a period of time, the original intent of the Blog to discuss the songs that Atul ji loves has now given room for discussing a much larger canvas of Hindi film and non-film songs. Now the Blog has over 13000 Hindi film and non-film songs. With a paradigm shift to cover all type of Hindi film songs in terms of the number of films as well as the number of films with all songs covered, the scope of the Blog has been considerably widened. With this, the attendant works in maintaining the Blog in terms of accuracy, the mind blowing statistics and some other value additions have significantly increased.

How does Atul ji find time to attend to the Blog work which has become enormous? It is often said that when a person is passionate about his interest, he would find ways to get time and the resources to attend to his passion.  He would not give up his passion irrespective of whether or not he gets motivated and he is appreciated for his work. Of course, motivation and appreciation are tonic for such kind of passion. It is quite admirable that despite Atul ji being a low profile person,  the number of his admirers has been steadily increasing if I go by the comments of appreciations of his monumental work appearing on the Blog and the elsewhere.

Atul ji has always given credit to the contributions of the regular visitors to the Blog as commentators, lyrics providers and guest writers etc whom he calls as his musical bandwagon. This speaks of his modesty. We all know as to how much time he has been devoting and the efforts he has been making to maintain a standard of information on the Blog. A musical bandwagon cannot move and deliver unless it is led by a powerful ‘locomotive’ called Atul Besra.

As a part of the musical bandwagon, I can say about myself that I have interests in Hindi films and non-film songs and about those connected with it. But I do not have passion like Atul ji. Interest can wane over a period of time though after some time, it can also resurface. But passion is perpetual. It is in this context I feel comfortable that the Blog is in the hands of  a person who is passionate about it.

Congratulations Atul ji for achieving a significant milestone of posting your own 10000 posts on the Blog. You have worked very hard to achieve this milestone. You are an inspiration for all of us in pursuing our own passions. More strength to your elbow.

As I said earlier, 10000 posts by Atul ji on the Blog is worthy of a grand celebrations. As per Atul ji’s intention of covering at least one song from the film which is yet to be represented on the Blog, I am presenting a rare song ‘Dil Thha Kabhi Tumhaara Ab Ho Chuka Hamaara’ from the film ‘GAURI’ (1943) sung by Brijmala. The song  is written by Kidar Sharma and is set to music by Khemchand Prakash.

‘Gauri’ (1943) was produced under the banner of Ranjit Movietone and was directed by Kidar Sharma. Prithviraj Kapoor and Monica Desai were in the lead roles supported by Shamim, Amarnath, Brijmala, Rajendra, Kamala Chatterjee, Rajkumari Shukla, Raj Kapoor etc. Probably, this may be first film in which  Raj Kapoor acted in an adult role with his father, Prithviraj Kapoor.

This was Kidar Sharma’s second film as a director after joining Ranjit Movietone in 1941, the first being ‘Armaan’ (1942). The story of ‘Gauri’ (1943) was set in Calcutta (Kolkata) and connected with the popular Durga Pooja festival. It was a human relation story around a family of an idol maker of Goddess Durga. The role of the idol maker was played by Prithviraj Kapoor. Monica Desai played the role of Gauri. The film was the 7th highest grossing Hindi films released in 1943.

There were 9 songs in the film which have become rare. Except one song, none of the songs are available on YT. The song under discussion is the second from the film which I have recently uploaded on YT.

Enjoy this lighthearted romantic song with the element of some teasing.

Lyrics

dil thha kabhi tumhaara
dil thha kabhi tumhaara
ab ho chuka hamaara

hamre liye hamesha

phirta hai maara maara

majboor hai bechaara
haan haan

kaliyon se kunj mehaka

bulbul ke sang chehka
bulbul ke sang chehka
koyal ki kook sun li
koyal ki kook sun li
to haaye jaan pukaara
phir kya kare bechaara
haan haan
phir kya kare bechaara

apni mita ke hasti
maujon se leke masti
apni mita ke hasti
maujon se leke masti
haan
maujon se leke masti
nazaron se pi raha hai
nazaron se pi raha hai
paa kar mera ishaaraa
paa kar mera ishaaraa
ye lut gaya bechaara
haan haan
ye lut gaya bechaara

jo dil ko na lutaaye
wo preet kya nibhaaye ae ae
jo dil ko na lutaaye
wo preet kya nibhaaye
wo ishq ishq kab thha
wo ishq ishq kab thha
jo husn se na haara
jo husn se na haara
majboor hai bechaara
haan haan
majboor hai bechaara
dil thhaa kabhi tumhaara
dil thhaa kabhi tumhaara

Thanks for this post, Sadanandji. Very nicely expressed thoughts about the blog and Atul.

Like you say, Atul has always been modest in underplaying his role and attributing credit to the rest of us. I like the way you say “the musical bandwagon cannot move unless it is powered by the powerful locomotive called Atul”. SO true! 🙂

Sadanand ji,
Excellent tribute to Atul ji’s passion.
Thanks.
I too have always thought similarly that Atul ji is like Arjuna, who could not see anything else other than the eye of the bird. He truly represents what Lord Krishna told Arjun in the Geeta…कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते माफलेषु कदाचन……….
Like a true Yogi Atul ji continues doing his work of posting, whatever happens in the world….let Modi win or let Trump win…Atul ji is the constant winner here !

I agree when you say that he is an inspiration to all of us.

Thanks,once again.

I am one the peripheral ones on the ‘musical bandwagon’. I can only admire the dedication all the regulars on this blog display. Congratulations to all.

Atul ji/Sudhir ji,

There is some calculation mistakes in regards to the estimated number of words used in the Blog for the total of 10000 posts. The sentence in 3rd paragraph of the write-up needs to be changed as under:

‘If I take a modest estimate of say 300 words per post, 10000 posts translate to a total words of 30,00,000 ( 30 lakhs), that is more than five times the word count of the English edition of Leo Tolstoy’s novel ‘War and Peace’’.

I request to amend the paragraph accordingly.

Arun ji,

Thanks for pointing out the discrepancy.
