“Lakhpati”(1948) was directed by Ravindra Jaikar for Fim Chitra Corporation, Bombay. This “social” movie had Sulochana Chatterji, D M Sapru, Rajan Haksar, Om Prakash, Baby Tabassum, LLeela Chitnis, Narmada Shankar, Dharpure, Nagotkar, Satyapal etc in it.
This forgotten movie had eleven obscure songs in it.
Here is the first song from “Lakhpati”(1948) to appear in the blog. This song is a typical melancholic song that was quite commonplace in Hindi movies those days. It is sung by Meena Kapoor. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Husnlal Bhagatram.
Only the audio of this song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.
with this song, “Lakhpati”(1948) makes its debut in the blog.
Song-Sab mere sahaare toot gaye (Lakhpati)(1948) Singer-Meena Kapoor, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-Husnlal Bhagatram
Lyrics
sab mere sahaare toot gaye
sab mere sahaare toot gaye
bas ek sahaara baaqi hai ae ae
bas ek sahaara baaqi hai ae
sabka insaaf to dekh liya
sabka insaaf to dekh liya
insaaf tumhaara baaqi hai ae
insaaf tumhaara baaqi hai ae
sab mere sahaare toot gaye
ummeed saath ab chhod gayi
jaati hui dil ko tod gayi
ummeed saath ab chhod gayi
jaati hui dil ko tod gayi
ab iske bhi tukde kar daalo
ab iske bhi tukde kar daalo
armaan bechaara baaqi hai ae
armaan bechaara baaqi hai ae
sab mere sahaare toot gaye
hum ro ro kar hi jeete rahe
aur khoon jigar ka peete rahe
hum ro ro kar hi jeete rahe
aur khoon jigar ka peete rahe
jeene ka nazaara dekh chuke
jeene ka nazaara dekh chuke
marne ka nazaara baaqi hai ae ae
marne ka nazaara baaqi hai ae ae
sab mere sahaare toot gaye
bas ek sahaara baaqi hai ae
sab mere sahaare toot gaye

I am from THOSE days and so called ‘melancholy songs’ are ‘heart touching songs’ to ME, and I ADORE them.
