4492 Post No. : 16019

Today (4 November 2020) is the 91st birth anniversary of Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal (4 November 1929 – 12 September 1971), one half of the legendary Shankar Jaikishan musical duo. The golden era of HFM started in 1949. Shankar Jaikishan were there right from the beginning. They ruled the roost in HFM for two decades. After that, the duo got separated in unfortunate circumstances, with the untimely death of Jaikishan at the the age of just 41. It is unbelievable but true that he had started at the age of 19 and he had achieved so much by the time he was 41 that the body of his work has gone on the become some of the best and immortal music that the golden era of HFM had given us.

After the demise of Jaikishan, Shankar continued giving music with the same brandname of Shankar Jaikishan. But the music created without Jaikishan was not the same.

Here is the full filmography of Shankar Jaikishan as music directors in Hindi movies :-

Overall, Shankar Jaikishan composed about 1200 songs in all. 985 of these songs, including bulk of their golden era compositions from 1949 till early 1970s are already covered in the blog. The gave music in 169 movies. 112 of these movies have already been YIPPEED in the blog.

As a tribute of Jaikishan, here is a song from “Zindagi”(1964). It is one of the few unYIPPEED movies of Shankar Jaikishan from the golden era. This movie was directed by Ramanand Sagar for Gemini , Madras. This “social” movie had Vyjyanti Mala, Rajendra Kumar, Raj Kumar, Mehmood, Jayant, Jeewan, Kanhaiyalal, Dhumal, Hiralal, Master Shahid, Prithviraj Kapoor, Helen, Leela Chitnis, Mumtaz Begam, Pushpawalli etc in it.

The movie had twelve songs in it. Eleven of these songs have been covered in the past. Here is the twelfth and final song from the movie.

This song is sung by Lata and Asha Bhonsle. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist.

The song is picturised as a synchronised mujra dance song at a wedding reception. I am unable to identify the two female dancers. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify them.

The picturised version is partial. The audio version is longer. Still, the picturised version has a stanza that is not there in the audio version.

With this song, all the twelve songs from “Zindagi”(1964) are covered in the blog and the movie joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.

Song-Chhoone na doongi main haath re (Zindagi)(1964) Singers-Lata, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi

main tumhaari hoon
mujhe paas bulaa kar dekho
meri raahon mein zara khud ko mitaa kar dekho
apne daaman pe koi aanch na aane doongi
chaahe har din mujhe pehlu mein bithhaa kar dekho
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa
aage badhe na koi baat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi

meri mehfil mein ye mat aane chale aate hain
chhod(?) kar shamma ko parwaane chale aate hain
main wo baazi hoon jise koi na jeeta ab tak
khelne phir bhi ye deewaane chale aate hain
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
khaayenge ye sab maat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithhi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi

dil ki hasrat na kabhi dil se nikalne doongi
pyaar kaa koi bhi jaadu ko na chalne dungi
ishq ki aag badi tez hai humne maanaa
dil ke moti ko main hargiz na pighalne doongi
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
hoti rahegi mulaakaat re
najariyoo se dil bhar doongi
chhoone na doongi main haath re
najariyon se dil bhar doongi
baithi rahoongi saari raat re
najariyo se dil bhar doongi

The actor who begins the song is Asha Bhonsle’s voice is Padma Khanna, in an uncredited appearance. I had searched, her filmography is not listing Zindagi 1964, but she was very much around in 1964, having debuted as heroine in bhojpuri films.

I had also reached ‘Zindagi” looking for golden era songs not yet posted. Shankar-Jaikishan were truly a blessed duo, who achieved the success, to their full potential.

Lyrics :
meri mehfil mein ye ‘mastaane’ chale aate hain
‘tod’ kar shamma ko parwaane chale aate hain

Thank you for the list of s-J films, which will be a reference point for unposted song.

Dear Shri Atul ji, Sincere thanks for  remembering my beloved Jaikishan ! His music is immortal ! 💐 Well, wrt  your querry about the dancers appeared in a song from ‘Zindagi ‘…The answer is. ..Padma Khanna & Rani ! As the song starts…” Choone na doongi mai haath…” It starts with Padma Khanna, seen at the left side on your screen. Right side is Rani seen accompanying Padma Khanna. We all know about Padma Khanna… Famous for ‘Johny Mera Naam’. Rani could be seen in various songs… viz. “Dekho Bijalee Dole Bin Badal Ki..”… Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon…Film of Nasir Hussain 1964-65.Also in “Dil Diya Dard Liya “…She came from Calcutta and with hard work made her place known. Her guru is… Respected Gopi Shankar ji..Also a dance director of Zindagi. More details about Rani could be available from ‘Tabassum Talkies’. All this information is shared by  my wife..Smita Pardeshi…She is also a great fan of HFM.She has good memory power to help me in recollection of such events. Well… Coming back to respected Shankar-Jaikishan…It’s unmatched.! Melody , Rhythem ,Orchestration, Prelude and Interlude.. It was our favourite past time to listen SJ songs on Juke Box, at Sunrise Restaurant Pune.We used to insert 25 ps coin for 1 song… Which was being contributed by 4 of us as a cup  of tea was also available for 25 ps. Jaikishan appeared on silver screen in Shree 420(Mood mood ke na dekh)..Very handsome figure.!👌Later he was seen in a brief scene of song recording in ‘Main Sunder Hoon’… “Naach meri jaan fatafat.” Well SJ have been our most favourite music director and we are grateful to have their memorable songs to make our life musically rich.💐

I’m sharing a rare photo of Jaikishan, to all our readers. This photo is put on the cover of my record player. This lovely photo had appeared in Star&Style annual of 1966. With warm regards! Dilip Pardeshi… PUNE

Oh, my God !
Atul ji,
You have excelled ! Collecting and analysing so much data, I am sure, must have taken lot of your time. Hats off to your efforts.
When I see someone devoting so much time, efforts and doing hard work, I feel pleased. This has become rare nowadays.
Thanks for making available the complete Song details of S-J films. It will be a handy check point for those who want to write posts on songs yet to be discussed.
I feel happy to be in the company of dedicated people !

In the list of films of SJ, there seems to be 2 omissions. In 1972 – AANKH MICHAULI with just one song covered in the blog is missing as also 1986 released KRISHNA KRISHNA yet to appear in the blog with any song.

Thanks for pointing out the missing movies.
