‘Samaaj’ (1954) was produced by Ashok Kumar and directed by Vasant Joglekar for Ashok Kumar Productions, Bombay. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Usha Kiran, Shashikala, Anup Kumar, Agha, Nazir Hussain, Leela Mishra, Iftikhar, Sumati Gupte, Aroop Kumar (son of Ashok Kumar) etc in it. SN Banerjee and Dhumal were in guest appearances in the movie.
The film had seven songs in it. Four songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the fifth song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Arun Kumar Mukherjee.
Lyrics of this song are what makes listeners sit up and take notice. It appears that this movie failed to attract the attention of movie goers and therefore this song failed to catch the ears of the listeners. Other explanation is the 1954 saw a plethora of great timeless songs and so this song got edged out into oblivion by the more popular songs of those days.
