Once I post the century post in the blog, I heave a big sigh of relief and tell myself that I am free from tension as the next century post is far far away. So it came as a surprise to me that the next cenbtury post for the blog has arrived. I thought that the previous blog century post had appeared just a few days ago ! How can we reach the next century so fast ? On checking up, I realised that the previous century post viz blog post number 18500 has appeared on 14 september 2024. Today is 3 November, so fifty days have passed. 100 songs in 50 days are to be expected, even with the slow rate of posts that we have settled into now a days.
Unlike previous century posts, where I would start worrying about the century post, this time I was without worries because I had stumbled upon a wonderful song a few days ago and had earmarked that song to be covered as the century post number 18600.
The song under discussion ticks all the boxes to fulfil the requirements of a blog century post. It is a rare song from an obscure movie. It is a creation of lesser known artists. In case the artists ar relatively besser known, they have performed in this song in unusual manner, so much so that it was difficult for me to identify them.
The movie this song is from is “Chhupa Rustam”. Not the Dev Anand starrer “Chuupa Rustam”(1973) but a C grade obscure movie called “Chhupa Rustam”(1965).
“Chhupa Rustam”(1965) was a stunt movie directed by Akkoo for Khanna Pictures, Bombay. The movie had such C grade “stars” as Chitra, Azad, Habeeb, Ram Raseela, Indira Bansal, Aruna, Khursheed, Majnu, Uma Khosla, Maqbool, Sattar, Arvind Kumar, Sheikh etc in it.
“Chhupa Rustam”(1965) had six songs according to HFGK. Mukhdas of individual songs are given, but neithrer record numbers nor names of singers are provided. In the bottom, it is mentioned that the playback singers for thismovie were Mahendra Kapoor, Geeta Dutt, Suman Kalyanpur, nAsha Bhonsle, Jaani Babu and Usha Mangeshkar.
The name (s) of lyricist (s) for the songs are missing as well. In other words, the songs of this movie are as obscure as they can be.
One song from this movie was covered in the blog 13 years ago. At that time our beloved Inhouse encyclopaedia Arunkumar Deshmukh jee provided invaluable information about this movie in his comment. Here is what he commented:

CHHUPA RUSTAM-1965,is indeed a hidden diamond in music. Hardly any reference is available anywhere. The so called ‘All inclusive’ internet sites are not even aware of it and but for your valuable find, this film might have never been brought to light.
However, not to worry. I have vivid memories of having seen this film as I was a fan of Azad, Dara Singh and the likes of them. I have my notes also on this film.
The king of Chandangarh, put 2 conditions before dying. 1-Rajkumari can not interfere in the kingdom till she is 18 and 2) only a man who saves her from death can become Senapati of Chandangarh.
The Pradhan mantri, Pratap(Shaikh) wants to become the king with the help of Sambri(Maqbool), who only wants Gold. So Pratap’s men start looting citizen, but one young man Shyam(Azad)stands up against them. He becomes the masked ‘Chhupa Rustam’ and fights against the oppressors.(This is a story upside down of “Madama Zorro”, having the same killing combination of A class C grade movie-Chitra, Azad, Akku and, Bulo c Rani).
Shyam also Saves the Rajkumari (Chitra) from enemies and she makes him the Senapati. Pratap ,with help from dancer Ragini(Aruna) steals military plans and challenges Azad to get them in 8 days or get out. The Chhupa Rustam not only gets the Military plans but also gets the Rajkumari and the Kingdom, by eliminating Pratap and co.
Too bad that such a fun movie is not available for us to watch.
At least this song is available. In fact its video is available. We notice that a rolypoly gentleman is teasing a roly poly lady by addressing her as Madam motee (मोटी ) and the lady takes it in good grace. This fun song is a duet song. I was all at sea as far as identifying the singers and actors was concerned. So I sought the help of our ever reliable go to man, Sudhir jee. He did his research and informed me that the singers, despite sounding different from their usual singing style are Jaani Babu and Usha Mangeshkar. The मोटी lady is Indira Bansal. The gentleman, by process of elimination could be Ram Raseela.
The lyricist of this fun song remains uncredited.
The music director is that underappreciated Bulo C Rani, whom we honoured 13 years ago by posting his immortal qawwaali Hamen to loot liya mil ke husn waalon ne as the 5000th song post in the blog.
So another gem of Bulo C Rani gets covered as a century song in the blog.
