#the Decade of Nineties – 1991 – 2000 #
———————————————————————
(Rajesh Khanna’s 82nd Birth Anniversary)
———————————————–
Today 29th December 2024 is the eighty-second birth anniversary (29.12.2024-18.07.2012) of Rajesh Khanna(29.12.2024-18.07.2012). On this occasion, we are paying tribute to Rajesh Khanna by presenting a few songs picturised on him.
In this post I am presenting a song from the movie “Sautela Bhaai-1996”. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 04.01.1996. I was staying at Kota (Rajasthan) in those days and since the project I was working there was in winding up stage I think I must have been more occupied with the work related activities, since I do not remember to have watched this movie. Even in the later years I must have lost track of this movie, because it is only recently that I came across this movie’s songs while going through the filmography of music composer R.D. Burman. The music for this movie “Sautela Bhaai-1996” is composed by him.
“Sautela Bhaai-1996”was written and directed by B.R. Ishaara. Information available on the internet mention that this movie must be in making for long and it had a delayed release. It is also mentioned there that this movie was a remake of another Hindi movie released in ‘1969’ which is ‘Dhartee Kahe Pukaar Ke’.
In very brief this movie is about a village school teacher (Rajesh Khanna) who works hard, even mortgaging his property with the village Thakur (Narayandas played by Amjad Khan) to help his step-brother Rajaram to study well. Rajaram successfully becomes an Advocate and falls in love with Sheena (Moon Moon Sen). In the village Thakur Narayandas wishes to get marry his daughter Bindiya (Farha) to Rajaram. However, after getting to know that Rajaram had already got married to Sheena, Master Tulsiram (Rajesh Khanna) proposes Thakur to get Bindiya married to his younger brother Shankar (Kumar Gaurav) which is not accepted to Thakur. Here after circumstances turn and Master Tulsiram has to go through lot of troubles including a Police case. What happens in the end is to be watched in the movie.
The cast of this movie is Rajesh Khanna, Deepti Naval, Kumar Gaurav, Raj Babbar, Farha Naaz, Moon Moon Sen, Amjad Khan, A.K. Hangal, Raja Bundela, Ranjeet, Raza Murad, Satyen Kappu, Paintal, Bhagwan, Kedarnath Sehgal, and many others. This movie was produced by Satish Khanna and it was presented by Saranjit Singh Wadaliya. . Editing of this movie was done by Omkar Bhakri. As mentioned above music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman. This movie has four songs which were all written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The playback singers for this movie are Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar, Alka Yagnik and Babla Mehta.
Coming to the song under discussion, this song takes place in the movie when Master Tulsiram gets the news of his brother (Rajaram) successfully passing out as ‘Lawyer’ with first class first distinction. O the same day when Tulsiram breaks this news to Thakur Narayandas, Thakur proposes his daughter’s marriage to Rajaram. Hearing two good news on the same day, Master Tulsiram suspends teaching for that day and celebrates the occasion. By “coincidence”, people are preparing “bhaang” in the village temple. Tulsiram notices that and partakes of this bhaang tro celebrate theoccasion. And then this song and dance takes place. The song is sung by Amit Kumar. We see Kaka performing his characteristic jigs on this song. Bhagwan, Paintal, Ghanshyam Rohera, and others are also seen in the picturisation of the song.
Lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is by R.D. Burman.
Enjoy this lively song and dance performance!!!
