# R.D. Burman’s Remembrance Anniversary #
——————————————————————–

Today 4th January 2025 is the 31th Remembrance Anniversary of the great music-director Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on 27th June 1939 and he passed away on 4th January 1994 at the age of just 54. We are paying our tributes to him by discussing a few of his compositions here on the blog.

In this post I am presenting a lesser heard song that could be a never heard song for many. I had not listened to this song till a few months back. This song is from the movie “Imaan-1974”.

I watched this movie recently. However, I could not locate this song in the online version of this movie. I did not get any indications to suggest that this song might have been excluded from the movie.

It is a very nice composition to listen to. This song seems to be a drunkard song. Earlier we had covered another drunkard song in the same movie but that was in the voice of Kishore Kumar.

“Imaan-1974” was directed by Padmanabh for ‘Gurudutt Films Combine, Bombay’. It is a movie social movie. It was produced by Atmaram (Gurudutt’s brother). The cast of this movie includes Sanjeev Kumar, Leena Chandavarkar, Bhagwan, Anwar Hussain, Satyen Kappu, Keshto Mukherjee, Murad, Krishnakant, Bhushan Tiwari, Viju Khote, Mohan Choti, Asha Potdar, Aarti, Johny Walker, Rajan Kapoor, Shivraj, Radheshyam, Narmada Shankar, Ramlal, Darshan, Mamaji, Nazeer Kashmiri, Kedar Sehgal and others. This movie has five songs that were written by Anand Bakshi and were composed by R.D. Burman. The singers in this movie are Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey.

I have mentioned it in my earlier post covering another song from this movie that “Imaan-1974” is a nice movie to watch at least for Sanjeev Kumar’s performance. In this movie he plays double roles of Madhav and Lakhan. Madhav is an honest and benevolent person while Lakhan is a crook. Madhav had to face a lot due to his helping nature and people betray him, while Lakhan can get done everything that he wants using muscle and money-power. ‘Who wins and how’ is what we have to watch in this movie.

Overall this is a nice movie to watch.. I guess that the songs of this movie didn’t become much popular except the song ‘arey kaise mitti ke maadho se paalaa padaa’ which was the first song from this movie that was covered on the blog on 16.07.2012.

Today I am presenting the third song from this movie. It is in the voice of Manna Dey. As mentioned above video of this song is not available. This song appears to be another drunkard song, the first one was in Kishore Kumar’s voice which was for the character of Lakhan in the movie. I guess that this song in the voice of Manna Dey could be for the character of Madhav in the movie.

Let us listen to this song now… and pay our tributes to Pancham.

Song-Dil se kyaa shai janaab miltee hai (Imaan)(1974) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

Dil se kyaa shay
janaab miltee hai ae
paise se to
sharaab miltee hai

ho o
tumne ye thheek sochaa hai
dil kee lagee ek
dhookhaa hai ae ae
tumne ye thheek sochaa hai
dil kee lagee ek dhookhaa hai ae ae
aa jhoomen zaraa
naachen zaraa
ae dilrubaa
aa jhoomen zaraa
naachen zaraa
ae dilrubaa aaa aa

achchhaa kiyaa jo
tumne kisee se
pyaar kaa waadaa
tod diyaa
mere liye zid apnee chhodee
saathh kisee kaa chhod diyaa aa
achchhaa kiyaa jo
tumne kiseese
pyaar kaa waadaa tod diyaa
mere liye zid apnee chhodee ee
saathh kisee kaa
chhod diyaa aa
tumne ye thheek sochaa hai
ye dostee ek dhokhaa hai ae
aa jhhoomen zaraa
naachen zaraa
ae dilrubaa aaa aa

ulfat se kyaa hotaa hai
yahaan par
daulat se kaam chaltey hain
galiyon ke log to pyaase hain
mehfil mein jaam chaltey hain
ulfat se kyaa hotaa hai
yahaan par
daulat se kaam chaltey hain
galiyon ke log to pyaase hain
mehfil mein jaam chaltey hain
tumne ye thheek sochaa hai
ye saadgee ek dhokhaa hai ae
tumne ye thheek sochaa hai
ye saadgee ek dhokhaa hai ae
aa jhoomen zaraa
naachen zaraa
ae dilrubaa aaa aa
