Today’s song is from the ‘1965’ movie “Son of Haatimtaai’. This movie was from the genre of ‘Swapna Chitra’ which I suppose falls in the genre of “Fantasy” movies.
This movie was directed by Dharam Kumar aka Deepak Asha. The cast of this movie has Randhawa, Malika, Mumtaz, Maruti, Shery, Jilani, Nazeer Kashmiri, Roopesh Kumar, Samson, Thakur, Shashimala, Shamim, Kishori and Jani Babu, and others.
This movie has six songs contributed by four lyricists viz. Prem Warbartani, Shadab, Jeet Jaipuri, and M. Hussain. However, Geet Kosh Vol-IV (1961-1970) mention the name against individual songs for only one song that is for lyricist Shadab. That song is the ‘Qawwaalee’ that we are going to listen to today. For the remaining five songs Geet Kosh doesn’t mention the name of the lyricist on this movie page. Though, in the ‘addenda’ it gives us information about one more song which is penned by Prem Warbartani. Out of the other four songs two have already been posted on the blog. And the blog mentions the lyricist for one song as M. Hussain.
The singers for this movie are Mohd Rafi, Jani Babu, Suman Kalyanpur, and Meena Patki.
Two songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today I am presenting the third song from this movie, which is a ‘Qawwaalee song’. This song is a special song as it is one of those few songs the two legends – Mohd Rafi and Jaani Babu have sung together.
This is the first Qawwaalee post of this year 2025 on the blog. The last year culminated with a wonderful Qawwaalee at the end of the year i.e. ‘aajaa aajaa ke hum hain akele’ sung by Ismail Azad Qawwaal which was presented on the blog by our inhouse encyclopedia Shree Arunkumar jee.
The lyricist for today’s song is Shadab who has written some highly meaningful lyrics (and they really sound as ‘pure’ and ‘divine’ as the meaning intended in it). Music is composed by Bulo C. Rani who has given us some immortal songs.
I came across this song a couple of months back. I am sure readers will enjoy listening to this song as much as I did. Enjoy this wonderful creation in the voices of Mohd Rafi and Jaani Babu Qawwaal.
