(Qawwaalees-2025/2)
————————-

In this post I present a ‘Qawwaalee’ from the movie ‘Muraad-1961’. This movie ‘Muraad-1961’ was directed by Naari Ghadiyali for ‘N.K.G. Productions’.

Here is the brief about this movie which Shree Sudhir jee mentioned while presenting the first song from this movie ‘nigaahon se chhupkar kahaan jaayiyegaa’ on this blog on 30.09.2015. In fact this was Sudhir jee’s post launching the series of ‘missing movies of 1960’s’ on the blog. Here is what he said…

I open this series with a song from the 1961 film ‘Muraad’. An obscure and unfamiliar film, about which I am not able to locate any information on line. As per Geet Kosh, this film is produced under the banner of NKG Productions, Bombay and is directed by Nari Ghadiyali. Six songs are listed for this film. Interesting thing is that the songwriter and music director are the same person. The name is Hanuman Prasad Triloki – a name that is new to this blog. As I tried to scan the Geet Kosh, I am not able to locate any other film in which this name appears as songwriter or music director. There is one Hanuman Prasad who appears as music director, but that name appears in the period from 1942 to 1952. That name is Hanuman Prasad Sharma, the music director who is known for giving Geeta Dutt her first break in Hindi film songs.

The cast of actors listed for this film Includes Chitra, Master Rajdeep, Asgar, Kumar Junior, Devraj, Heera Sawant, Majnu, Amrit Rana, Sarnasi, George, Robin, Albert, Benjamin Jo Abraham, Lambu, Baijnath, Kailash, Azeez, Neena, Mehmood (Rampuri), Rafia, Asmat, Zeenat, Fatma D’souza, Qabban Mirza, and Nazneen etc. Practically all names are unfamiliar (for me), except for three or four, including ‘Chitra’ of course.

I would like to add here the singers for this movie and they are Suman Kalyanpur, Madhubala Zaveri, Badree, Bhushan, Meera, Shailjaa, Sumitra, Shahgul and Shankar-Shambhu Qawwaal.

Commenting on Sudhir jee’s post our in-house encyclopaedia Shree Arunkumar jee had mentioned the following about the music director Hanuman Prasad who composed the music for this movie.

Looks like that Hanuman Prasad Sharma and Hanuman Prasad Triloki are the same persons. Hanuman Prasad Sharma was not only a Music Director, but he was also an expert Dance master. After film Usha kiran-1952 (with composer Manohar), he stopped giving music and turned to his other expertise- Dancing. he opened a Dancing School in Bombay and in the later part of the 50s, he also became a devotee of Sai Baba. There used to be big Poojas and Bhajans of Sai Baba in his Dance school. Probably, during this period he took the surname Triloki (which is also a Brahmin surname). In 1961, according to an entry in the book “Dhunon ki Yatra” by Pankaj Raag, he gave music to Murad-61.
This information about his Dance school and Sai Baba Pooja etc, is based on the Pankaj raag book and also Yogendra Yadav’s book-Film Sangeetkar,Suvarn yug wale.

Today I present the second song from this movie, which, as mentioned above is a ‘Qawwaalee’ song. The singers are Shankar-Shambhu and Badree. Lyrics and music are by Hanuman Prasad Trilokee.

Let us now enjoy this song …Only audio of this song is available. Though Geet Kosh doesn’t mention it, I suppose this song might be in two parts, because from the lyrics I noted I guess there should be more verses to it. But as of now, as per the audio available with us we have the following verses only. Knowledgeable readers can help us and throw light on this movie and its songs please.
