“Daaka”(1959) was produced by H Kheda and directed by Nanabhai Bhatt for Starland Productions, Bombay. This movie had Ashok Kumar, Nirupa Roy, Maruti, Smriti Biswas, Badri Prasad, Balam, Bhupen Kapoor, Jugnu, Kathana, Kesri, Keshav, Maqbool, Pran, Ghani, Helen etc in it.
“Daaka”(1959) had six songs in it. Five songs have been covered in the blog so far. Here are the details of the songs that are covered so far :-
| SNo in Blog | Song Title | Singer/s | Lyrics | Posted On | Remarks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2182 | Aasmaan aasmaa tu kyaa jaane | Hemant Kumar | Prem Dhawan | 24 November 2009 | Picturised on Ashok Kumar and Nirupa Roy |
| 3252 | Tod ke do nainon ka taalaa | Lata | Prem Dhawan | 25 November 2010 | Picturised on Helen with Ashok Kumar and Nirupa Roy also present |
| 11955 | Dil phaanse de ke jhaanse | Rafi-Geeta Dutt | Prem Dhawan | 27 March 2016 | Picturised on Maruti and Smriti Biswas |
| 15259 | Chaand ne kuchh kahaa taaron ne kuchh suna | Hemant Kumar and Lata | Prem Dhawan | 17 October 2019 | |
| 16064 | Thhandi hawa lag na jaaye | Asha Bhonsle | Majrooh Sultanpuri | 25 November 2020 |
We observe that details of picturisation of the first three songs are known. However, the video of second song, which was picturised on Helen is no longer available online. Videos of last two songs are not available. The duet song of Hemant Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar could well be picturised on Ashok Kumar and Nirupa Roy, but I am unable to guess who lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the fifth song. I request our knowledgeable readers to thow light on the picturisation of these songs.
Here is the sixth and final song from “Daaka”(1959) to appear in the blog. This song, like the earlier song covered from this movie, is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Like that song, this song too is penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Majrooh Sultanpuri had penned these two songs, whereas other four songs were written by Prem Dhawan.
Music is composed by Chitragupta.
Only audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
This song appears to be the rarest and least known song from this movie, but it sounds as sweet and melodious as the other songs from the movie. A forgotten gem of a song. I listened to this song for the first time just know. The song bowls you over the very first time one listens to it.
With this song, all the six songs of “Daaka” (1959) get covered in the blog. The movie thus joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEED in the blog.
Song-Le le le le ye mera dil (Daaka)(1959) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Chitragupta
Lyrics
hmm hmm hmm hmm
o ho ho ho
Le le le le
ye mera dil
tera nazraanaa hai
Le le le le
teree tasveer hai jis mein
ye wo paimaanaa hai
Le le le le
ye mera dil
tera nazraanaa hai
Le le le le ae
udhar tu hai
idhar dil hai
muhabbat kee ye manzil hai
udhar tu hai ae
udhar tu hai
idhar dil hai
muhabbat kee ye manzil hai
na bas mein hai jabaan meree
na khwaabon mein mera dil hai
muhabbat kyaa aa
muhabbat kyaa nigaahon se
tujhe samjhaanaa hai
Le le le le
ye mera dil
tera nazraanaa hai
Le le le le ae
sanam kyun ho khafa baithhe
nigaahen kyun jhuka baithhe
sanam kyun ho o
sanam kyun ho khafa baithhe
nigaahen kyun jhuka baithhe
mere dil mein bhee aa jaao
jab is mehfil mein aa baithhe
sitamgar sun
sitamgar sun
har ik dhadkan
tera afsaanaa hai
Le le le le
ye mera dil
tera nazraanaa hai
Le le le le ae
arre zaalim na jaa uthhkar
hai dil sheeshe se naazuktar
arre zaalim
arre zaalim na jaa uthhkar
hai dil sheeshe se naazuktar
mujhe hans kar na yoon dekho
deewaanee main naheen dilbar
na jo samjhe ae
na jo samjhe sadaa dil kee
wahee deewaana hai
Le le le le
ye mera dil
tera nazraanaa hai
Le le le le le

This song from Daaka (1959), though lesser-known, carries the unmistakable charm of Chitragupta’s melodious composition and Asha Bhonsle’s enchanting voice. Majrooh Sultanpuri’s lyrics beautifully complement the tune, making it a delightful discovery for music lovers.
Thanks, Atul Sir, for this lovely post and for bringing such forgotten gems to light!
