Continuing my series of Kamsune/Ansune of Asha Bhosle, I present to you the 5th song of this series which is a thirakta machalta geet of Asha Ji from the 1968 movie Jung Aur Aman.
The song is ”Nigahon Mein Mohabbat Ka” penned by Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by the extremely talented but unsuccessful G S Kohli, the assistant to master composer OP Nayyar for a long time. And therefore, many a times when you hear a song composed by Kohli, you get a feeling that you have heard a similar sounding song. That possibly is a song composed by his Guru.
G S Kohli composed music for only a handful of movies, 8 to be precise, but that small collection had some very exceptional songs such as the “Agar Mein Poochoon” and “Chaman Ke Phool Bhi “ both from Shikari (1963)“ “Mana Mere Hassan Sanam” from Adventures of Robin Hood (1965) and some more from Char Dervesh (1964), Namaste Ji (1965), etc
I personally rate G S Kohli as equal to Ganesh Sharma in that both were extremely talented but couldn’t become as successful as what they deserved.
Coming to today’s movie, Jung Aur Imaan 1968 starred Dara Singh , Mumtaz , Jayant , Nadira , Mohan Choti , Raees Ahmed.
It was directed by Nanabhai Bhatt for producer A. Qadeer. It had story by Z. Hussain & Dev Dutt, the screenplay and dialogue by Mahmud Saroush The movie had 5 songs which were composed by G.S. Kohli. Of the 5 songs, one was written by Anjan and the rest four were divided equally between Hasrat Jaipuri & Prem Dhawan
Synopsis :-
This is a Story of lust for Power. Kasim & Haider-two friends and both pillar of Samarkand kingdom-aspired for the hand of kings only daughter. Haider lost her and also the kingdom. Now he was a rebel. He was all for war. He captured one fort after another till he reached Samarkand’s borders. Kasim though equally brave did not agree to fight his friend.
However, his son Hasan (Dara Singh) degraded Haider and brought him in chains at Kasim’s Court. Kasim forgave him, but Haider escaped with the help of his daughter, Zubeda (Mumtaz). She however, fell in love with Hasan. Hasan was blamed for the escape. His brother and heir aspirant, Nizam, arrested him and his parents. Haider started marching back.
A fierce war took place. It was a war of agony, a war of destruction. And what happened when Peace was restored? One can see the movie onyoutube
The picturisation of the song shows Dara Singh and Mumtaz enjoying the song lip synced by two dancers. I request our informed readers to name them.
