Mukesh and his Composers – 36
Today, we shall take up the case of a rather unknown music director, Prem Kumar.
He has a solitary unreleased film to his credit. Only two solo songs are available in the voice of Mukesh and Mahendra Kapoor.
The film name is Paisa aur Zindagi which was in the making circa 1973. Not many details are available of any the cast of this film. Myswar has whatever details are available of this unreleased film.
The director is mentioned as Kunwarsingh Thalia and the cast includes Devika and Harish Kumar. The film was supposed to be released by the production house of Sangeeta Arts.
There are two lyricists, namely M Shammi and Masoom Saharanpuri. The latter is the lyricist of today’s Mukesh solo.
No details are available of Prem Kumar though it seems there was one more composer of the same name in the vintage era.
One comment on youtube states that the Mukesh song in this unreleased film has two versions, but there is no proof of it. In fact, Saregama, earlier known as HMV, has put up 3 songs on its website under this film in which two songs are the same with different titles.
The EP number has been mentioned as 45-N 14068 in MGK-II.
So, in all probabilities, the unreleased film has only two songs as mentioned earlier.
We are all used to Mukesh’s songs to the extent that most of his songs are known to us by heart. And, when such an obscure song is heard, the over fondness of the voice of Mukesh only increases.
It’s 1973 and Mukesh has all the reputation of a great singer with hundreds of songs. And, yet again for an unknown composer he renders this sad song with the same zeal, enthusiasm and his trademark midas touch.
A relatively unknown composer and a lyricist have come together to create a very good song in the voice of Mukesh. For obvious reasons, the post is sans a table.
A sad as well as a soothing song which only Mukesh’s voice could do wonders.

Song-Laga ke dil ko kisee se ye kya kiya maine (Paisa Aur Zindagee)(UR)(1973) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Masoom Saharanpuri, MD-Prem Kumar
Lyrics
Laga ke dil ko kisee se
ye kya kiya maine
sakoon e zindagee haaye ganwaaa diya maine ae ae
Laga ke dil ko kisee se
ye kya kiya maine
khabar thhee kyaa
hamen dhaayenge wo hee humpe sitam
ke jinkee yaad mein duniya ko bhool baithhe hain
farishta aaadmee ko kyun samajh liya maine ae
Laga ke dil ko kisee se
ye kya kiya maine
naheen hai humko pata
par ye log kehte hain aen
ke aaj kal to sada hum
udaas rehte hain
deewaane ho gaye hain hum to
ye suna maine aen
Laga ke dil ko kisee se
ye kya kiya maine
banee hai dard kasak tees zindagee meree ee
badal gayee hai ghamon mein har ek khushee meree
kisee ke pyaar mein
paaayee hai ye saza maine ae
Laga ke dil ko kisee se
ye kya kiya maine
