Blog Day : |

Today (30 June 2025) is the last day of the month. Last day of the month is important in many ways. It is on this date that accounts are settled for many things. For instance, one may pay the milkman for the milk taken during the month and may pay for the newspaper taken for the month. In government service, it is a very important day for retiring people. People who were born sixty years ago retire on this date. So, people born during June 1965 are retiring today. I too retired on this day exactly three years ago.
This article is not about those events though. In this article, I will discuss the blog activity in the month of june 2025. When we look at the previous months, we notice that we were typically covering songs whose number ranged from 30 odd to 70 odd in a month. The last time we touched three figures of songs in a month was in may 2023, when we touched exactly 100 songs. This broke a five months long streak that began from January 2023 when more than 100 songs were getting covered every month.
We had failed to recapture those days during the next two years. During these two years, we touched the lowest of 33 songs in a month (April 2024) while the highest that we recorded for a month was 78 songs (January 2025).
That was followed by 49 songs(February 2025), 53 songs (March 2025), 49 songs(April 2025) and 65 songs(May 2025).
June 2025 also began the same way. We were on 42 songs by 15 June. At this rate, we were likely to match the figures of January 2025. But we have some regulars who are more enthusiastic than others. One regular asked me whether we should try for a century of songs this month because it seemed a possibility to him.
I was non committal because it looked like a tall order to me. But then he began to follow it up by sending sevetal posts. By 20th June, the number of posts mounted to 60. Then another regular started coming to the same conclusion independently that century of posts in this month was possible. It meant 40 posts in 10 days. It meant an asking rate of 4 posts daily for 10 days. Matters were helped when seven songs were posted on 20 june (only second such occurrence in 2025) and six songs on 23 june (first such occurrence in 2025). By 26 June, the tally stood at 83 songs for the month. It was expected that the blog would inch towards the century mark on the last day of the month.
27th June was a day that saw unusual activity in the blog. The customary first post of the day appeared at 5:00 AM. There was a lull of 1 hours 30 minutes when the second post appeared. This post was to pay tribute to R D Burman, whose birth anniversary fell on that day. After this there were posts after posts, all paying tributes to R D Burman. So many posts were published that people lost count. All these posts were guest posts and bulk of them were coming from the same ethusiastic contributor who wanted to see the blog clock a century of posts in the month.
With a plethora of posts on 27th june, the target of 100 posts for the month had become a cakewalk.
My task on 27 june was to keep publishing the articles as they arrived in my mailbox. It was a daylong process starting in early morning and culminating at 8:30 PM when the last post of the day was published.
Today is the last day of the month and the blog had crossed the century post for the month comfortably.
One thing that everyone seems to have missed it one very major record that was set on 27th June 2025. On this date, as many as 14 posts were made. It is a record for the blog. It broke the previous record of 13 posts published in a day. That feat was achieved twice- viz on 25 October 2011 and 6 September 2012.
27th June 2025 was a friday. For me every day is as good as sunday but it was a working day for others. So contributing so many posts on that day took extraordinary dedication on the part of the guest contributors. I wondered how the feat of 13 songs in a day were achieved in the blog in the past. On examining the recors, I found that 25 October 2011 was a working day (tuesday). It was Sahir Ludhainvi’s remembrance day. I was based at Nagpur at that time. On this date, the first post was published at 8:10 AM. The 13th and final post was published just one minute before midnight at 11:59 PM. 6 September 2012 too was a working day. It was thursday. I was based at Bilaspur (Chhatisgarh). On this date the first post was published at 7:32 AM and the last post appeared at 11:47 PM, 13 minutes before midnight.
So one can see that posting 13 and 14 posts in a day is a tall order. One has to devote the entire day for the cause. No wonder this feat could not be replicated or exceeded all these years.
The regular whose idea it was to break the record and set this new record was the always ever enthusiastic Avinash Scrapwala. He contributed a mind numbing 12 posts on 27th June 2025, all paying tributes to R D Burman. Almost all songs were forgotten gems (seeing that well known gems of R D Burman have already been covered in the blog in the past). In the process, R D Burman, who had 888 songs in the blog, crossed 900 songs in the blog in a matter of one day.
As I mentioned, 27th June 2025 was aa working day and Avinash Scrapwala unlike me is a working individual. What is more it was his wedding anniversary that day. To devote the entire day not to his wedding anniversary but to pay tribute to R D Burman on the blog ! What can one say. One can only take one’s hat off at such determination and dedication. I on my behalf and on behalf of other music lovers offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to Avinash Scrapwala for this amazing determination and dedication for the cause of HFM as well as the blog.
I must say that his example motivated me too. I decided that I too would post one R D Burman song in this article. I have a list of R D Burman movies that have been YIPPEED as well as unYIPPEED. I began to search unposted songs from unYIPPEED movies of R D Burman. I kept searching on and on, but the available songs failed to enthuse me as they did not fit the bill. Just as I was despairing, I arrived at just the song that I was looking for.
This is a forgotten gem of HFM from 52 years ago. I had heard this song at that time and liked it. I could see that it was a duet by Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. That is all I knew. I had no clue about the movie, the music director, lyricist etc. In fact I forgot all about this song because the movie and its songs got forgotten just after its release.
The movie is so obscure that few people remember it. This movie is “Paanch Dushman”(1973) also called “Daulat Ke Dushman”(1973). The audio of the songs (alongwith dialogues) were originally released in the name of “Daulat Ke Dushman”. The movie was directed by Vimal Rawal for M G Productions, Bombay. The movie had Manu (new discovery), Razi (new discovery), Pran, Shatrughan Sinha, Manmohan, Vinod Khanna, Prem Chopra, Nazeer Hussain, Mukri, Mohan Choti, Durga Khote, Jagdish Raj, Sundar, Sujata, Brahmchari, Agha, Helen, Aruna Irani, Mehmood etc in it.
The movie had newcomers as lead actors. The movie flopped badly and these newcomers disappeared from the scene. The filmmakers, who wanted to launch the careers of the lead pair, especially the hero (wo apparently was related to the producer) had signed up a stellar starcast consisting of five legendary villains of Hindi movies (Pran, Shatrughan Sinha, Manmohan, Vinod Khanna, Prem Chopra) and they had signed up the top musical team (R D Burman as music director, Majrooh Sultanpuri as lyricist), and they gave their best, but their efforts were in vain.
The stellar music of this movie was forgotten with the movie, which was a loss to the music lovers.
On this occasion, I present this forgotten gem for the music lovers. To my mind this is one of the best musical creations of R D Burman. It is truly a kamsuna/ ansuna geet, as our regular Satyajit Rajurkar would put it.
Here is this gem of a song. The song is better heard than watched, but I have nevertheless provided the video of the song as well which is picturised on the pair of new discoveries, viz Manu and Razi. The five villains watch from a distance, waiting to act once the love birds are done with their lip syncing. 🙂
Once again, my thanks to all our regular contributors who helped create the record of 100 songs for the month and 14 songs in a day. For the later record, my special thanks go to Avinash Scrapwala.
Let us savour this amazing R D Burman composition. If you have never heard this song before then please listen to it a few times. It is bound to grow on you.

Lyrics
jaana hai humen to jahaan karaar miley
jaana hai humen to jahaan karaar miley
lootenge raahon mein jahaan bahaar miley
jaana hai
jab tak chaloon chaltee rahoon main
baahon ke saaye mein tere
jaana humen kahaan ye bhee naheen sochen
neend see aankhon mein bhare
manzil humen miley na miley
tera pyaar miley
arre jaana hai humen to jahaan karaar miley
lootenge raahon mein jahaan bahaar miley
jaana hai
mujhe duniya mein jeene ka sahaara
kaafee hai dil kee lagee
kuchh bhee na chaahoon rahe mere liye
ye tere honthon kee hansee
saaree duniya se lena humen kya
hum ko yaar miley
jaana hai humen to jahaan karaar miley
lootenge raahon mein jahaan bahaar miley
jaana hai
tere sang piya padte hain mere
neel-gagan pe kadam
tum ho mere toh dhartee ghata pe
raaj humaara hai sanam
ho aaj nazaare sar jhuka ke
sau sau baar miley
arre jaana hai humen to jahaan karaar miley
lootenge raahon mein jahaan bahaar miley
jaana hai humen to jahaan karaar miley
jaana hai

Thanks, dear Atul ji.
I think some information about Manu Narang is in order. The hero Manu Narang was himself the producer of the film “ 5 Dushman”. He belonged to the illustrious family of Narangs, who were the owners of many hotels, properties and businesses in Delhi and Mumbai, including The Ambassador Hotel of Mumbai, perhaps housing the first revolving rooftop restaurant in India.
Manu Narang was later disreputed and accused of being involved in the smuggling of antiquities from India to outside the country. He left ( fled) India and settled in England.

Heartiest Congratulations Atul jee!!!
Thanks for this song and this post. This song was due since long. But then there are many such Pancham songs yet to be covered by us. This movie was introduced on the blog in ‘2012’ when I had shared lyrics for a song from this movie as a lyrics contributor. And later I also present a Rafi song from this movie in ‘2022’ where in I had mentioned the story of how I became aware of the (first) song and this movie.
I think I will be presenting one more song from this movie with more details.
Thanks for your kind words for me. And though there were some health issues with me on 25th & 26th evening, other than a major activity of relocation going in the background for me, I am happy that I was able to do it as I had thought. Also, I must mention here that It could not have been possible without your support in reviewing & editing of the write-ups and publishing them throughout the day. Thanks again for your valuable support and time spared for the posts.
With best regards,
Avinash

Congratulations Atulji for touching 100 songs in this month.
I am amazed at Avinashji’s enthusiasm & was wondering through the day how his spouse would be taking his Pancham- madness on that special day of their life.
For an RD Burman fan, I never knew this song was his creation. I have heard it a number of times on the radio, but couldn’t place the song when I read the title. recognised it only when it began to play. Me & my so-called knowledge of Hindi FIlm songs stand humbled
