#The Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #

We are all aware of the movie ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’ which came in the year 1975. This movie turns fifty years old’ this year. I remember watching this movie with my parents and I liked all the songs from this movie. However I was not aware of the movie whose song is being covered in the post. I became aware of this movie only after getting hold of Geet Kosh Vol-VI (1981-1985). Geet Kosh mentions in the footnote of this movie that the songs from this movie ‘Sampoorna Santoshi Maa Ki Mahimaa-1981’ were released in the 1975 with the title ‘Santoshi Maa Ki Mahimaa’. However, later the title of this movie was changed to ‘Sampoorna Santoshi Maa Ki Mahimaa’ and it was released in 1981.
Some words were changed in one of the songs of the movie and one song was later excluded from the LP records. I am not aware of the reason of this movie taking so much time for its release. It was certified by the Censor Board on 24.04.1981. In the later years three more movies were made with similar titles viz ‘Maa Santoshi Maa-2003’, ‘Jai Santoshi Maa-2006’ and ‘Jai Jai Santoshi Maa-2009’. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie ‘Santoshee Maa Ki Mahimaa-1981’.
‘Sampoorna Santoshi Maa Ki Mahimaa-1981’ was directed by Hiralal R Jain for ‘Shree Santosh Films, Bombay’. It is clear from the title of the movie it was a devotional genre of movie. The producer of this movie was Ashok Hiralal Jain. The cast of this movie had Surendra Kumar, Komila Virk, Sulochana, Shyama, Jayshree T., Rekha Chauhan, Asit Sen, Nana Palsikar, B.M. Vyas, Rana, Anant R Marathe, G.S. Dubey, Polsan, Madhu Apte, Kalyan Inamdar, Asif, Lallan Prasad, Radha Nirmala, Sumitra Preeti, Patel and Chand, Tiwari, Shahu Modak, Bhagwan, Anita Guha and others. This movie has six songs in it as per details given in Geet Kosh. Lyricist Bharat Vyas wrote all the songs for this movie and music was composed by Shrikant Telang. Suman Kalyanpur, Mahendra Kapoor, Mukesh, and Manna Dey are singers for this movie.
Today I am presenting the first song from this movie to appear on this blog. It is an aartee song sung by Suman Kalyanpur. Some sources mention that today 4th July is the ‘Remembrance Day’ of lyricist Bharat Vyas. This blog ‘anniversary page’ mentions the same but with two dates i.e. 4th July and 5th July. Moreover there is some confusion about the date of birth of Bharat Vyas. Author Anil Bhargava in his book ‘Hindi Filmon Ke Geetkaar’ mentions his date of birth as January 06, 1918 and date of passing away as July 5, 1982.
He has written songs for many Devotional and Mythological movies too. I am a big admirer of Bharat Vyas. Many songs penned by him are my favourite songs.
