So, we are at this familiar landmark again. The landmark of a century post for the blog. This is the 192nd century for the blog. In other words, this article is song post number 19200 for the blog. It appears as if the blog began just a few days ago in the month of july. In reality the blog began in July 2008 (19 July) and today we are in 2025. We have completed 17 years of continuous existence which is quite an achievement for an online activity. It is wonderful to realise that this musical endeavour had brought likeminded music lovers together and they have stuck together all these years. Like Fevicol. 🙂
All these years, we have slowly evolved and have added features that have enriched the blog. Now we take those feaatures for granted. For example, the list of songs (Moviewise, Music directorwise, yearwise). These lists were started as far back as 2009 and 2010. These lists come extremely handy as they give us a bird’s eye view of where we stand. If a contributor wants to send an article, he can go through the list and find out whether the song that he wants to discuss is already covered or not.
In the earlier days of the blog, I had no idea how many songs were there in which movies. So I would unknowingly cover all the songs of a movie without realising it. Now we know which movie has how many songs. So we know how many songs are not yet covered. When all songs of a movie get covered, we are done with that movie and we no longer need to search for songs of that movie. Movie by movie, now we have exactly 1500 movies like that whose songs are fully covered in the blog. Or to use our own lexicon, 1500 movies have been YIPPEED in the blog. These 1500 movies amount to over 10400 songs !
That begs another question. How many movies are represented in the blog. The answer is 5100. Yes, poore paanch hazaar ek sau. This post will cover movie number 5100 in the blog.
To put things into perspective, HFGK (1981-1985), the latest HFGK mentions that 6504 movies were made from 1931 to 1985. These movies had about 50000 songs in them. Most of our movies and songs discussed in the blog cover this period though some songs after 1985 are also covered. But their number is not much. So we can see that a vast number of songs and movies mentioned in HFGK are already covered in the blog. With 5100 movies represented in the blog, there are not too many movies left to be represented. When one tries to find unrepresented movies from 1930s to 1960s, one often draws a blank ! Only movies of recent vintage, viz 1970s onwards, can be found unrepresented in the blog. Most movies of 1930s and their songs are no longer available. All things considered, I think there may be at the most another 300 odd movies (whose songs are available) that we may be able to add in the blog before we will exhaust these movies.
As for YIPPEED movies, my guess is that we may be able to YIPPEE another 500 movies or so. There are movies where finding the last song often turns out to be the problem and that song is often unavailable, perhaps lost for ever.
I have often likened the blog to a musical bandwagon that is running like a non stop train reaching newer destinations every day. I think that the blog is also like a museum that showcases a vast number of musical treats that were ever created. For instance, during the decade of 1950s (1951 to 1960), there were 1160 movies with about 10000 songs in them. The blog showcases 1056 of these movies and 5806 of these songs ! One can see that less than 100 movies of 1950s are missing. Very few of these movies are now available. Working like musical miners, we have already dug up and extracted almost all the movies and songs of those days that were available.
!950s is the most well represented decade in the blog. That is followed by 1960s (4230 songs). Then come 1940s (3867 songs) and 1970s(3011 songs). As many as 644 songs from the decade of 1930s are available in the blog.
Our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh metioned in a recent post that his copies of HFGK are badly tattered due to overuse. Same is the case for my copies of HFGK (which by the way were kindly gifted by his and Sudhir jee to me in July 2014 on the occasion of the blog reaching 10000th song in the blog). The conditions of various volumes of HFGK are directly proportional to the number of songs from those decades covered in the blog. The HFGK part 3 (1951-1960) is in the worst condition as can be guessed from the above statistics. 🙂
We must thank all the music lovers and collectors who preserved these songs in their personal collections and who are now sharing these musical gems with others. The service that they are rendering to music lovers cannot be thanked enough.
This musical treasure is savoured not only in India but also globally. That way, this is part of Indian soft power that has influenced other countries and have made them interested in India.
Coming to the song being covered in this article, I have selected a song that I had never heard before, even though this song was created in an era when I was fully immersed into Hindi movie songs. Forget the song, I was not even aware of the movie ! The movie is titled “Do Number Ke Ameer”(1974). This “Social” movie was directed by P D Shenoy for Mukul Enterprises, Bombay. The movie had Asha Sachdev, Sajid Khan, Padma Khanna, I S Johar, Kamal Kapoor, Urmila Bhatt, Jalal Agha, A K Hangal, Poornima, Bharat Bhushan, Asha Chandra, Jaya Kaushalya, Roopesh Kumar, Rajan Haksar, Hari Shivdasani, Kamaldeep, Indira Bansal, Cocacola, Pilu Wadia, Shekhar Purohit, Baldev, Kalsi, Arti, Lotan, Dinesh Hingoo, Brahmchari, Birbal, Jugnu, Amarjeet, Surinder Kohli, Madhu Patel, Hira Patel, Moolchand, Geeta , Kavita, Amrit Oberoi, Radheshyam, Monika, Ranjana Sachdev etc in it.
From the star cast, it appears an A grade movie, one that hoped to launch the careers of the lead actors Asha Sachdev and Sajid Khan.
The movie had five songs in it penned by Indeewar and composed by Sapan Jagmohan.
Here is the first song from “Do Number Ke Ameer”(1974) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar. It is picturised on Sajid Khan and Asha Sachdev.
People may feel that this song is better heard than watched. That may be true, but let us not be harsh on the actors. Please remember, Sajid Khan is the same person who figured in the iconic song “Nanha Munna Raahi hoon Desh ka sipaahi hoon” from “Son of India”(1962). He was the kid who inspired millions of Indian kids for several decades via this song. Here , twelve years later, he was trying to make his career as a grown up person. It was not his fault that his filmy career failed to take off as a grown up actor.
What about the song ? I discovered this song only yesterday while I was looking for a as yet unrepresented movie in the blog. I had never heard this song in all those 51 years. This song magically transported me back to those heady days of 1970s when Kishore Kumar was the king. Whatever he sang was lapped up by me. I would have loved listening to this song had I heard it back then.
As for the music, I would have thought that the music was composed by R D Burman. But no, this R d Burman like music is a creation of Sapan Jagmohan who were doing well as music directors in the limited opportunities that they were getting. He tended to use Naqsh Llayalpuri as lyricist. Here for a change he used Indeewar, who was mostly assocaated with Kalyanji Anandji those days.
What a fantastic song ! A befitting song number 19200 for the blog while also ushering in the 5100th movie in the blog.
I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their support and encouragement that keeps us motivated and energised and enables us to keep this musical bandwagon in motion. By the way, this bandwagon seems to be gaining some speed. This century came up in exactly one month (31 days). From an average of two months for a century, we are now taking one month for a century. We are even scoring a century of posts in a month these days. These are encouraging signs.
Here is hoping that we will keep going on and on and we will keep reacing newer destinations and landmarks in the days to come.
For now, let us enjoy this lovely forgotten gem of a song from half a century ago.

Lyrics(Based on Video)
dil kisee ko jo diya na ho o
dil kisee se jo liya na ho
main hoon sawaalee
dil mere naam kar do
tum kisee ke jo huye na ho
tum labon ke jo chhuye na ho
mera dil hai khaalee
dil mere naam kar do
dil kisee ko jo diya na ho o
dil kisee se jo liya na ho
baandh loon main saanson kee zanjeer tum se
tum jo kaho to badal loon taqdeer tumse
baandh loon main saanson kee zanjeer tum se
tum jo kaho to badal loon taqdeer tumse
mere khwaab kee miltee hai tasweer tumse
tum naseeb ko sanwaar do
tum fasaane ko nikhaar do
bharo lab kee laalee
dil mere naam kar do
dil kisee ko jo diya na ho o
dil kisee se jo liya na ho
angon se chhalkee jaaye tumhaaree jawaanee
tum wo kalee ho jispe bahaaren deewaanee
angon se chhalkee jaaye tumhaaree jawaanee

main agar tumhen bhalee lagee ee
