(Celebrating ‘Saawan’-2025-12)

Today is shraawan poornimaa. The festival of Rakshaabandhan is being celebrated all over the country today. The shraawan poornimaa in fact started yesterday afternoon and as mentioned in our calendars it ends by today afternoon.
That will also mark the end of the month of saawan in the northern parts of India, while in southern parts including Central India the month of saawan will continue to be observed till amaavasyaa which will fall 23rd of this month.
In these parts of the country the saawan month started from 24th of last month.
On this blog we started to celebrate saawan from 28th of last month when saawan had started to be observed in all parts of the country. Today I am ending this series here with two more saawan songs.
So far, we have enjoyed eleven songs in this series. These were lesser heard or never heard songs from our Hindi films. In the process I have noted that there are many saawan songs that are yet to be posted here. Moreover many saawan songs from older movies are no longer available. I might be presenting a detailed list of such songs in the future on this blog. There are some well-known or popular saawan songs from recent movies that might be coming up in future..
That brings us to today’s saawan song. It is from “Paayal Ki Jhankaar-1980” which was directed by Satyen Bose for Ruchi Films, Bombay. It had Komal Mahuwakar, Alankar, Surinder Kaur (new discovery), Arun Kumar, Shail Chaturvedi, C.S. Dubey, Virendra Gaud, Shrikant Moghe, Anand Joshi, Brijendra Mohan, Pardesi, Master Abhitabh, Deepak, Sudha Shivpuri, Ranjana Sachdev, Bandini, Namrata, Asha Sharma, Rajraani and Nisha. Master Mayur and Master Sandeep make a guest appearance in this movie. This movie had total eleven songs in it and it was passed by Censor Board on 23.08.1980. Music for this movie was composed by Rajkamal and its songs were written by Maya Govind. Aarti Mukherjee, Alka Yagnik, Anand Kumar C., Jaspal Singh, Purushottam Das Jalota, Sulakshana Pandit and Yesudas gave their voices to the songs of this movie.
Today’s song appears at the start of this movie as the titles begin to roll on screen. It is a village fair set up where we see the song being picturised on Alankar Joshi, Komal Mahuwakar and many others. Women are celebrating saawan. Shyama (Komal Mahuwakar) joins them and lip syncs the song in the voice of Sulakshana Pandit. Gopal (Alankar) is playing the dhhol. One male artiste, whom I am unable to identify lip-syncs in the voice of Anand Kumar C.
Two songs from this movie “Paayal Ki Jhankaar-1980” have been posted on this blog in the past and today’s song is the third song from this movie.
Let us now enjoy this song written by Maya Govind and composed by Rajkamal. (The lyrics are noted as pe the video of this song in the movie. The audio of this song is a little shorter and missing the ‘mukhdaa’ and its repetition in the end of this song).
