#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
————————————————————————
The song in this post is from the movie ‘Watan Se Door-1968’. I have never watched this movie and I guess that it is not available on any internet platform too. But I had presented a song from this movie earlier here on the blog. And how I remember this song and how I get to know which movie it was is a long story which I have mentioned in my post here on the blog with the song ‘kaisaa jaadoo daalaa maa banarasee roomaal waalaa’. This song was posted on the blog on 19.07.2015. Before that our Sudhir jee had presented two songs from this movie here on the blog as per following details.
1) mehfil mein naheen to dil mein sahee – 10.11.2011
2) pyaare pyaare tere andaaz ke qurbaan gaye – 19.11.2011
When I presented the first song from this movie I didn’t have the copy of Geet Kosh Vol-IV (1961-1970) with me and therefore I could not give the details of movie in that post. However our in-house encylopeadia Shree Arunkumar jee had given the story of this movie while commenting on the first post of Sudhir jee.
Here is what he had mentioned about this movie.
WATAN SE DOOR (1968) was directed by Kamran, who was once a leading hero of C grade movies and he was in great demand in his times, as audience used to flock to dilapidated, obscure, nondescript theatres to watch his films with great enthusiasm and in great numbers too.
Actually the story of this film is totally different and unimaginable for a film of Dara Singh.
The war with China is on in the Himalayas. Capt. Ranjit (Dara singh), Dr. Khan (Kamran),Prof. Kapoor(Shyam kumar),Nurse Mala(Nishi) and few soldiers escape with a microfilm of Chinese secrets, in custody of Ranjit. On the way, they fight Chinese army, free Indian girl Bharati (Meenakshi) and her brother, and generally do heroic deeds. They are surrounded by Chinese army once. Ranjit escapes and seeks help from Raka (Amarnath) tribal leader, who obliges and drives away the entire Chinese platoon ! In return he now wants Mala the lovable Nurse. Irked by the idea of losing his muse, Ranjit thrashes Raka and makes him unconscious. Raka’s fiancée Shibika helps them to escape from there.Again the Chinese attack and this time plant a Time Bomb around them after tying them.
The further story is easily predictable. Ranjit escapes, destroys Time Bomb, kills many Chinese soldiers and reaches Indian camp. The Govt. gives him a medal and Mala gives him her OK.
Here, I am adding the information available in Geet Kosh for this movie.
“Watan Se Door-1968” was directed by Kamran for ‘Rainbow Films, Bombay’. It was a movie from the genre of ‘social movies’. It had Dara Singh, Nishi, Kamran, Tiwari, Maruti, Meenakshi, Shyam Kumar, Amarnath, Amar, Khursheed Khan, Anjum, Zerry, Habib, Fazlu, Tuntun, Bibu China, Masood, Moolchand, Dezy Irani and others. This movie has five songs which were all penned by Farooque Kaiser and they were composed to music by Lala-Sattar.
It has been mentioned by Sudhir jee in earlier posts that this movie was a routine B Grade movie but its music was A grade, even if they failed to get popular. The song under discussion is one such song. I was not aware of this song till now. This song is in the voice of Suman Kalyanpur and this is her only song in the movie. It is such a wonderful composition that one wonders how this song remained hidden and failed to become a well known song. May be it was not available on internet. Whatever may be the reason, now it is available. I notice that it has been uploaded online just two or three weeks ago.
While writing this post I am also remembering our late Bharat Bhai who had presented songs of Suman Kalyanpur under the series of ‘Surilee Suman’. He would have been very happy to see it here.
