Mukesh and his NFS – 07
“Baat adhoori rahe gayi uss din”
In today’s post, we cover yet another music director who never got any filmi songs sung by Mukesh but composed two melodious NFS.
The composer is Jag Phool Kaushik, better known as JP Kaushik. He is also mostly known as the composer of Amitabh Bachchan’s debut movie Saat Hindustani (1969).
I was planning to wind up this post in 30 minutes but spent the last 40 minutes or more trying to understand the number of songs in Saat Hindustani. Only one song (sung by Mahendra Kapoor while the titles roll) from this film has been covered on the blog so far and it appears to be the only song even though snippets of the same appear frequently in the film. I could also hear some humming by a female singer in the film and wonder who it could be. I could gather all this info while I ran through the film in a jiffy. 😊
I request knowledge readers to write more about the song/s in this film.
Coming back to the composer, Shishir Krishna Sharma ji, on his blog Beete Huye Din has a detailed write-up on the life and works of JP Kaushik. Here is the link for interested readers.
It is in this detailed write-up; I learnt that JP Kaushik, before his foray into film music with his debut film Shehar Aur Sapna (1963) had recorded two private geets in the voice of Mukesh.
What’s surprising is that Mukesh never features in any of his film scores thereafter.
Thus, we have only two private songs sung by Mukesh for JP Kaushik. One has already been covered by self and was in fact the debut song in this series of “Mukesh and his NFS”.
In this post, I am taking up the second and obviously the last song of the combo.
One commenter on youtube has used the word “silken” for the voice of Mukesh for one of these songs. I totally agree with him even though the term is more commonly used for Mukesh’s friend Talat Mahmood.
I urge readers to listen to both these songs on the loop. You will also agree that Mukesh as usual has put all his soul into the songs and qualify as the silken voice.
To conclude the post, the reason as to why they never collaborated in films will keep me engrossing.
I wonder what “adhoori baat” remained between Mukesh and JP Kaushik in 1963.

Lyrics
Baat adhooree reh gayee us din
aaj mujhe keh lene do o
baat adhooree reh gayee us din
aaj mujhe keh lene do o
baat adhooree
gagan mahal mein deepak gaa ke
jaal gayi ratiyaan deep jala ke
gagan mahal mein deepak gaa ke
jaal gayi ratiyaan deep jala ke
preet agan kab kam deepak se
pal pal jalna hoga tujh bin
baat adhooree reh gayee us din
aaj mujhe keh lene do o
baat adhooree
door bahut hai man ka basera
chhod chale tum saath kyun mera
door bahut hai man ka basera
chhod chale tum saath kyun mera
kaise pahunchaagoona manzil par
jeena hoga gadhidaan gin gin
baat adhooree reh gayee us din
aaj mujhe keh lene do o
baat adhooree
