In this post I am presenting a nice ‘morning’ /‘bhor’ song’ from the movie ‘Aanchal-1980’.
Picturisation shows a big house in a vilage where most of the main characters in the movie reside. Rakhee is lip syncing this good morning song in the voice of Lata Mangeshkar. Two decades ago, we had Meena Kumari lip syncing in Lata Mangeshkar’s voice another good morning song ‘jyoti kalash chhalke.’
Like what Meena Kumari was shown doing in that iconic “Bhaabhi Ki Choodiyaan”(1961) song, this “Aanchal”(1980) song shows Rakhee playing her role as an ‘ideal Bhaarteey Naari’ performing early morning household chores such as spraying water (mixed with ‘gobar’), ‘tulsi kee pooja’, feeding the birds, extracting water for household works from the pump, waking up other members of the household, preparing them for going to their work etc.
Activities like sweeping, cleaning the courtyard, watering the plants, offering prayer, getting her ready for other routine activities get performed by her, all this while singing this morning song. In short, this song serves as a morning alarm cum murge ki baang to inform all concerned that it is time to wake up and get out of bed.
While she is doing all this she has to help the male residents of the house by giving them tauliyaa etc. If it is her devar (brother-in-law) then he has to be lazy, careless, and childish (even if he has become a grown-up man 🙂 ) who is dependent on his bhaabhee to play the role of mother and take care of him. While she is doing all this her husband is still in bed and waiting for her to drag him out of bed by pulling out sheet from him, literally make him ready and push him out of the house to go for work. (Thank god, my younger daughter has not watched this song 🙂 otherwise she would have come up with her scathing comments on why the males in our society have to be spoon fed for everything and why they can’t at least get out of their bed themselves 🙂 and why they cannot set their own bed in order after waking up etc etc.)
‘Aanchal-1980’ was directed by Anil Ganguly for Bemisal Films Pvt Limited. Prem Lalwani and Mohan Lalwani were the producers of this movie. It was passed by Censor Board on 18.09.1980. It had Rajesh Khanna, Rakhee Gulzar, Rekha, Prem Chopra, and Amol Palekar, with Leela Mishra, Shammi, Dinesh Hingoo, Ranjana Sachdev, Birbal, Sarita Devi, Asit Sen, Swapan Guha, Amol Sen, Deepak, Master Ravi, Lekha Chauhan, Master Sandeep, Suresh Desai, Saukat Bharti, Jankidas, Rajkishore, Viju Khote, and others. Abhi Bhattacharya had a friendly appearance in this movie. Story of this movie was written by Tara Shankar Bandopadhya, and dialogues were written by Ehsan Rizvi. Screenplay of this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick. Editing of this movie was done by Waman Bhonsle and Gurudutt Shirali.
“Aanchal-1980” had six songs written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by R.D. Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, and Swapan Chakravarty had given their voices to the songs in this movie. Five songs from this movie have already been posted on the blog.
Today we are going to listen to this final song from this movie, which is chronologically the first song appearing in the movie. The song is played on screen as the titles of the movie roll on the screen. This song has a brief sad version too when the family, alongwith Raakhi fall on bad times.
Here is a brief about this movie which our senior member Shree Raja Swaminathan had mentioned in his post while presenting the first song from this movie on the blog on 18.07.2018.
The film stars Kaka, Rekha, Raakhee, Amol Palekar and Prem Chopra. It’s a village-based story, where Kaka and Amol Palekar are brothers, with Raakhee married to Amol Palekar. Since Kaka is her husband’s younger brother, Raakhee treats him with great affection. Kaka too has highest regard for his bhaabhi. Prem Chopra, who has a score to settle with Amol Palekar, plays mischief, creating misunderstanding in his mind about the relationship between Raakhee and Kaka. Also, doing the same to Rekha, who is in love with Kaka.
Let us now listen to this song which is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is composed by R.D. Burman.
