#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
————————————————————————

(Kishore Kumar’s 39th Remembrance Day 13th October 2025)

Yesterday 13th October 2025 was the 39th Remembrance Day of the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. He was born on 4th August 1929 at Khandwa (now in Madhya Pradesh) and he passed away at the age of fifty-eight only on 13th Octorber 1987 at Bombay (now Mumbai).

We are all aware Kishore Kumar started his singing career with the 1948 movie ‘Ziddi’ where he had given playback for actor Dev Anand. This was the song ‘marne ki duaayein kyun maangoon’. Kishore Kumar’s peak-time came during the end-of-sixties, and the decade of seventies was when Kishore Kumar’s voice was heard everywhere. He sang songs for many of the established actors as well as new-comers in the industry. And of course he was well-known as the voice of Dev Anand and voice of the Superstar-Rajesh Khanna.

Any discussion about Kishore Kumar’s singing career is incomplete without mentioning his association with Rahul Dev Burman composing music and Rajesh Khanna lip-syncing on screen.

While remembering Kishore Kumar, I am presenting a lesser heard song from the eighties. Music for this song is composed by Rahul Dev Burman and lyrics are by Anand Bakshi.

This song is from the movie ‘Hum Dono-1984’, which was passed by the Censor Board on 21.12.1984. It was written, directed and edited by B.S. Glad. Tony Glad was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie includes Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Reena Roy, Johny Walker, Jagdeep, Mukri, Mohan Choti, Keshto Mukherjee, Asit Sen, Shubha Khote, Birbal, Dinesh Hingoo, Pilu Wadia, Jugnu, Johny Whisky, Viju Khote, Ravindra Kapoor, Madhu Malini, Leena Das, Sujata, Iftekhar, Ram Mohan, Prem Kumar, Bhushan Tiwari, Dhruv Kumar, Shashi Kiran, Sudha Shivpuri, Shaktijeet, Roopesh Kumar, Om Shivpuri and others. Premnath had a special appearance in this movie, while Shammi and actor Sudhir made a guest appearance in this movie.

I have not watched this movie yet. However for the context of today’s song I am reproducing below a brief text taken from a YouTube link of this movie’s song here.

Raja is a small time performer who believes in living life to the fullest. In this stage performance, he is celebrating all the indulgences of a hot – blooded youth. ‘Hum Dono’, starring Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini and Reena Roy, is about Raja (Rajesh Khanna) who discovers that his face is similar to that of Dr. Shekhar (also Rajesh Khanna), one of the top earning doctors of Mumbai. He somehow manages to take his place, but discovers that even Dr. Shekhar has problems of his own.

This movie had five songs composed by R.D. Burman. Lyrics for all the five songs were penned by Anand Bakshi. The singers for this movie are Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, and Anuradha Paudwal. One song from this movie in the voice of Asha Bhonsle has already been posted on the blog earlier.

Today’s song is the second song from this movie. We have Rajesh Khanna, Leena Das, Sudhir and others present in the picturisation of this song. We can see Kaka doing some steps in this energetic song, apart from his regular jigs. Also he is looking in good shape which he could not maintain afterwards.

Let us enjoy this foot-tapping song in the voice of Kishore Kumar now …

Thank you for this song.

Seeing the choreography i cannot imagine Rajesh Khanna as the dancer- it cud have been Rishi Kapoor for whom the costume was designed; the dance steps were not meant for Rajesh Khanna
