Today I am presenting a Qawwaalee song again. It is from an un-released movie of the 1970s which was later used in 1990 in another movie. This movie is titled as ‘Arab Ka Sona’ – for the seventies. Geet Kosh Vol-V mentions this movie under un-released movies of 1971-1980. However, there is no information about the cast of this movie. As per Geet Kosh (1971-1980) this movie was directed by C.K. Kadar for ‘C.K. Films’. Music composer for this movie is Jitin-Shyam. Eight songs are mentioned for this movie each with the name of the singers and lyricist. Geet Kosh has left a space indicating the possibility of more songs in this movie. For the eight songs the lyricists are Aish Kanwal(five songs), Shrikant (one song) and Shabnam Karwaari(two songs). Singers for this movie’s songs are Mohd Rafi, Krishna Bose, Nitin Mukesh, Jaani Babu Qawwaal, and Dilraj Kaur.
One song from this movie has been presented by our dear Nahm jee on the occasion of Ramaadaan-Eid on 11th April 2024. This devotional song is in the voice of Rafi Saab.
Now we come to the decade of nineties. There is a movie titled as ‘Abu Kaliya’ which was passed by Censor Board on 13.08.1990 with restricted viewing i.e. ‘A’ certificate. This movie is directed by C.K. Kadar for ‘Amir& Associates’. C. K. Nasar is the producer of this movie. Salim Chauhan is the Executive Producer of this movie. C.K. Kadar (Kerala Kuttamangalam) the director of this movie also wrote the story and screenplay of this movie as mentioned in the titles of this movie. If one search for the movie ‘Arab Ka Sona-1979’ on internet the results also show in bracket the name of the movie as ‘Abu Kaliya-1990’.
It had Majid Khan, Anuradha Sawant, Sudhir Pandey, Sulakshana Khatri, Mahesh Tomer, Pravin Bhalla, Rajiv Thakur, Shahid Khan, Rakesh Bidwa, Sunil Chavan, Gulati, Oberoi, Ghulam Bhai Zariwala, Ravi Malhotra, Sayeed Sultan, S.J. Johar, Chandrakant Pandya, Sumitra, Baby Dimble, Ishkwal, Vinod Tripathi, Smt Satyabhama B.N., Hasan, Dilip, Ramesh, Anil Kumar, Salim Chavan, Bhimappa, Yallappa, Ashok Bhatiya, C.K. Akbar, C.K. Altaf, Ashok Asrani, Atinder, Imtiaz, Shakil Kumar, Hitler, H.G. Ahmed, Vijay Kumar, Noon Jaffery, Master, Rasool, Gautam, Siraj, Gafoor Phoolwala, Amit Bose, Raj Bir, Tina, Sangram Singh, Ayub and others. Jogin Kumar Jadeja had a friendly appearance in this movie while Zahid Merchant made a debut with this movie.
Dialogues for this movie are written by Sayed Sultan. Ravi Patankar is the editor of this movie. For the lyrics of this movie the titles mentioned Aish Kanwal and Shabnam Karwaari as the lyricist. So, the name of Shrikant as lyricist is missing here. However, the music composer’s name for both this movie is the same i.e. Jitin-Shyam, which is for the movie ‘Arab Ka Sona-1979’. I guess that only the songs of this movie have been used for the new movie ‘Abu Kaliya-1990’. Because the pictures associated with the links of the song of the movie ‘Arab Ka Sona’ have actor Dara Singh and others in them.
In the singer’s list this movie ‘Abu Kaliya’ mentions the name of singers as Late Mohd Rafi, Nitin Mukesh, Jaani Babu and Dilraj Kaur as the playback singers. So we do not have the name of Krishna Bose here in the list of playback singers, which was there for the movie ‘Arab Ka Sona-1979’. Sources on internet mention that ‘the production of this film had started in the 1970s. The film was supposed to feature Dara Singh in the lead role, and its music was released in 1979. It was shelved after an extended delay, and the film’s music was re-purposed for a different film which was released in 1990 with the title “Abu Kaliya”.
This movie ‘Abu Kaliya-1990’ is available on a video sharing platform on internet; however the print is not of good quality. The songs appearing here are not in the sequence that is mentioned for the ‘1970s’ movie and some of the songs do not have sound (sound of songs have been muted) in this movie link.

This today’s begins on a positive note of flamboyance, but later turns cynical. Lyrics are by Aish Kanwal and music is composed by Jitin-Shyam.
