“Raaj Kanyaa” or ‘Raj Kanya-1955’ a costume drama film was directed by Vinod Desai for Vinod Films, Bombay. Chandrakant Desai was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie had Nalini Jaywant, Manhar Desai, Bipin Gupta, Sunder, Sapru, B.M. Vyas, Chand Barq, Ramesh Tiwari, Kumkum, Smriti Biswas, Roop Basant, R.S. Pandey, Raj Shrivastava, Nirmal Kumar, Munni Bai, Leela Bai, Chand, Motiram, Natu, C.S. Dubey, Mahmooda, Jaina, Haroon and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 17.01.1955 which means the movie is around seventy years old now.
This movie ‘Raj Kanya-1955’ has eight songs which were all written by Gopal Singh Nepali and music for this movie was composed by Chitragupt. Two songs from this movie have already been posted on this blog. I guess that many songs from this movie were not available on internet earlier and they have come up on internet in recent years.
Today I am presenting the third song from this movie which is a duet sung by Mohd Rafi and Shamshad Begam. Out of the eight songs in this movie the voice of Shamshad Begam featured in only one song (which is the song under discussion) in this movie. Rafi Saab had one solo song, and three duets – two with Asha Bhonsle and one with Shamshad Begam, so there are total four songs where the voice of Rafi Saab is present in this movie. Asha Bhonsle had sung four solo songs (one accompanied by chorus) and two duet songs, which means her voice featured in six songs in this movie.
