In our journey of bringing Kavi Pradeep songs on this blog today we add one more song penned by him. This song is from the movie ‘Veer Bhimsen-1964’. This movie was produced & directed by Chandrakant for Joy Films, Bombay. The video of this movie available on internet has the date of passing of Censor Board as 19.12.1974 which must be its date of renewal of the certificate. From it we can guess that the movie was initially passed by Censor Board on 19.12.1964 for its first run. One more movie with this same title was later released in 1985 (passed by Censor Board on 24.04.195). Kavi Pradeep was the lyricist for both the movies.

The cast of this movie ‘Veer Bhimsen-1964’ included Dara Singh, Anita Guha, Mumtaz, Mahipal, Sumitra Devi, Shahu Modak, Randhawa, Tiwari, Sapru, B.M. Vyas, Amarnath, Vishwas Kunte, Ravi Kumar, Babu Raje, Radheshyam, Shribhagwan, Dubey, Anand Tiwari, Prithvi, Ajeet Soni, Pt. Iqbal, Pahalwan, Kingkong, Tiger Joginder Singh, Saudagar Singh, Swarn Singh, Rana Pratap Singh and many others. ‘Veer Bhimsen’ is a movie from the genre of ‘mythological’ movie. Screenplay for this movie was written by Chaturbhuj Doshi and its dialogues were written by Ramesh Pande. Editing of this movie was done by Vithoba Surve and Ram Khade. Harish Khatri was the chief assistant director of this movie.

While presenting the song ‘aayee aaj bidaa kee belaa’ from this movie our senior Shree Sadanand Kamath jee has given details about the story of this movie. I have taken some excerpts of his text and I present it below to give a brief idea about this movie.

“‘Veer Bhimsen’ is a mythological film connected with the epic of Mahabharata from the viewpoint of Bhimsen. In Mahabharata, Bhimsen, the second among the five Pandav brothers, has been depicted as a man with extra-ordinary power, strength, unsatiable appetite and the devotion to his family. He is very protective of Draupadi. Those who insulted her, Bhimsen take deadly revenge against them. At the same time, he follows the sound sense of justice towards those who are exploited. Although he remained under the shadow of his younger brother, Arjun, Bhimsen had an important role in Kurukshetra war in which he defeated Duryodhana and Dushasana in the last day of the war. There are many interesting episodes on the life of Bhimsen including those during the Kurukshetra war. The story of the film is based on some of such episodes in the epic of Mahabharata. There are many episodes in the film build around Bhimsen, like killing of demon Bakasura, king Jarasandha, killing of Kichaka, and his meeting with Lord Hanuman etc. After Pandavas return to Hastinapur, in the game of dice, Pandavas are defeated and are exiled in the forest for 12 years. During the period of exile, there are episodes concerning Bhimsen.”

‘Veer Bhimsen-1964’ has ten songs penned by Kavi Pradeep and composed by C. Ramchandra. Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Kavi Pradeep are the playback singers for this movie.

Five songs from this movie have been posted on the blog earlier. Today I am presenting the sixth song from this movie. This song gets played in the background with the titles of the movie rolling on the screen. This song describes the time of Mahabharat.

(A few lines of the first stanza of this song get played in the background again as the movie ends.)

Song-Sunaate aaj tumko ham Mahabharat kee gaathha(Veer Bhimsen)(1964) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyricist-Kavi Pradeep, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

Sunaatee aaj tumko
ham Mahaabhaarat kee gaathhaa aa aa aa
sunaatee aaj tumko
ham Mahaabhaarat kee gaathhaa aa aa aa
hazaaron varsh pahle
dekh lo ye desh kyaa thhaa aa

jahaan thhe veer adbhut
vikat randheer adbhut
wo pran ko paalte thhe
pahaad uchhaalte thhe
wo nar thhe aag waale
vilakshan bhaag waale
wo jeenaa jaante thhe
wo marnaa jaante thhe
prataapee nar se dar kar
kaal muthhee mein bandhaa thhaa
aa aa aa
hazaaron varsh pahle
dekh lo ye desh kyaa thhaa aa

wo ek mahaan yug thhaa
badaa balwaan yug thhaa
jagat thhaa daas apnaa
padhho itihaas apnaa
naa din wo pyaar ke thhe
wo din talwaar ke thhe
yahaan jab rann huaa thhaa
chakit tribhuvan huaa thhaa
hathhelee par liye maathhaa yahaan
har nar khadaa thhaa aa aa aa
hazaaron varsh pahle
dekh lo ye desh kyaa thhaa aa

anokhee ye kathhaa hai
badee ismein vyathhaa hai
yahaan bhagwaan bhee thhe
yaheen shaitaan bhee thhe
ghazab kee naariyaan thhee
prakhar chingaareeyaan thhee
naman hain aaj unko
hai vandan aaj unko
ke jinkee keertee kaa sansaar mein
dankaa bajaa thhaa aa aa aa
hazaaron varsh pahle
dekh lo ye desh kyaa thhaa aa
