The song under discussion is from the movie ‘Hari Darshan-1972’. It was a mythological movie.

I enjoyed watching mythological movies during my childhood, both in colour as well as black-white (most of them used to be black and white). Mythological movies used to faascinate me.

However I have no recollections of watching ‘Hari Darshan-1972’ dring its first run. But I remember the songs of this movie that were ofen played on loudspeakers during festivals. Its songs were ofen heard on radio as well.

I have presented two songs from this movie in the past . This song, the third song from the movie being presented in the blog was a familiar song to me, but I was not aware till recently that this song had three versions. I was only aware of Lata Mangeshkar version of this song.

Some mythhological movies have gone on to become iconic movies. ‘Jai Santoshi Maa-1975’ is one such movie. This movie has completed fifty years of its release in this year 2025.

Incidentally this year 2025 gave us another mythological all time blockbuster hit movie, in animated category, i.e. ‘Mahaavtaar Narsimha’. When the movie was released in theatres and the news about its being liked by audience and the movie performing well in theatres spread, I wanted to watch this movie in theatre but I could not. Recently the movie was released on OTT Platform and I watched it there and enjoyed it just as I used to enjoy watching such movies during my childhood. Watching this movie, which tells us the story of ‘Bhakt Prahlad’ I was reminded of the this movie “Hari Darshan” which is also aboyt the same story of ‘Bhakt Prahlad’. The movie also briefly covers the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

Hindi movies with the title ‘Bhakt Prahlad’ were made in the years 1934, 1946, 1965 and 1967. All these movies are already represented on this blog.

‘Hari Darshan-1972’ was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 24.08.1972. The star cast of this movie includes Randhawa, B. Saroja Devi, Abhi Bhattacharya, Shahu Modak, Asit Sen, Sujata, Kalpana Deewan, Padma Rani, Sanjana, Sadhna Khote, Sarla, Anwari, Rekha Chouhan, Babu Raje, Himmat Singh Chouhan, Ram Rasila, Satyajit, Jr. Mehmood, Baby Rupa, and others. And Dara Singh, Jayshree Gadkar, Arvind Trivedi in special appearance. This movie has tens songs written by Kavi Pradeep and Music composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Two songs from this movie have already been covered on this blog.

Today I am presenting the third song from this movie “Hari Darshan-1972’. This song has three versions sung by Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar. First two versions are solo versions whereas the third version has both the voices. The first version gets played during the opening of the movie with titles appearing on the screen. Arvind Trivedi playing Hari kathavaachak lip-syncs the first version in the voice of Mahendra Kapoor telling his audience the story of Lord Vishnu and his ten incarnations. The second version of this song is picturised on little Prahlad (Master Satyajeet) who is in the ashram for his studies but he is more inclined in ‘prabhu bhakti than studies. The third version of this song takes place when King Hiranyakashyap in a fit of rage kills his wife Kayadhu while trying to kill Prahlad. Here Prahlad seeks god’s intervention as Hiranyakashyap challenges him. This song takes place before the climax of this movie. Arvind Trivedi in present in the version, where as Master Satyajeet and Junior Mehmood are visible in the second version. In the third version Master Satyajeet, Randhawa, B. Saroja Devi and many other are visible.
