#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
The song in this post is again a song from the Hindi films of the year 1983. The movie is ‘Beqaraar-1983’.
It was directed by V.B. Rajendra Prasad for Jagpati Art Pictures, Madras. V.B. Rajendra Prasad was also the producer for this movie and he also wrote the screenplay of this movie. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 01.08.1983. The cast of this movie has Ashok Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Mohnish Behl, Padmini Kolhapure, Supriya Pathak, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappu, Asrani, Mohan Choti, Tez Sapru, Chand Usmani, Poornima, Dulari, Seema, and Yasmeen Khan, Sangeeta Behl, Tulsi Devi, Kirti Singh, Aslam Farshauri, Mahmood Khan, Master Manoj, Master Dambu and others.
‘Beqaraar-1983’ has six songs written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. 1983 was a great year for this composer duo who gave music in as many as 12 movies released this year. Many of these movies have great music that went on to become popular songs of that year. Here are the details:-
| SNo | Movie | Passed by Censor Board on |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Andhaa Qaanoon | 04.04.1983 |
| 02 | Arpan | 07.02.1983 |
| 03 | Avtaar | 27.01.1983 |
| 04 | Beqaraar | 01.08.1983 |
| 05 | Coolie | 14.11.1983 |
| 06 | Hero | 05.12.1983 |
| 07 | Mujhe Insaaf Chaahiye | 13.09.1983 |
| 08 | Paakhandi | 08.09.1983 |
| 09 | Prem Tapasya | 15.01.1983 |
| 10 | Woh Saat Din | 23.06.1983 |
| 11 | Yeh Ishq Nahin Aasaan | 28.01.1983 |
| 12 | Zaraa Si Zindagi | 03.01.1983 |
Though Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed music as many as twelve movies in 1983, the top three songs of Binaga Geetmala final that year were composed by other music directors namely Usha Khanna (for Sautan song that was number one) and Ravi (for Nikaah songs that were number 2 and 3).
However the songs of ‘Hero-1983’ that was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal ruled the charts the next year viz in 1984. Its song ‘tu mera jaanu hai’ topped the annual Binaca Geetmala list of 1984.
Coming to the song being discussed, this song was from a “social” movie, which was the usual genre of movie produced in South. One song from this movie viz. the title song ‘bekaraar bekaraar bekaraar kiyaa’ had become very popular. The other songs of this movie are also good particularly the two duet songs of Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. Out of these duet has already been posted on this blog. The remaining three songs are lesser heard songs. Two of them can be considered as important songs from the view of the story line of the movie. I have not fully watched this movie, but could guess the storyline from whatever little I have watched. To keep the interest of the readers intact I would not like to give the story of this movie. Some hint of the story is present in the picturisation of the song itself.
This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. This song takes place on a train. The song gets lip synced by Padmini Kolhapure who is seen pacifying her restless baby. So it is an intentional lullaby song and an incidental rail song. Other co passengers are Mohnish Bahl seated adjacent to her on the same lower berth while Supriya Pathak and Sanjay Dutt are seated on the opposite lower berth. One can watch the changing expressions and emotions of Supriya Pathak, Sanjay Dutt, and Mohnish Behl to the lyrics of the song as the song progresses. Watching the picturisation, one can sense the poignancy of the situation and gives the viewers some idea of the storyline.
So, let us listen to this wonderful song now. Asha Bhonsle is the singer, and this song marks the 3500th song for her on the blog. This song-post also brings my 1200th post on the blog. I always prefer to present a ‘rail song’ whenever a milestone is reached and the journey has to continue further. 🙂
So here is this ‘rail song’ where the lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
