Ye taaron bhari raat

Posted on: August 12, 2012

Yesterday Raja got me going on Geeta Dutt-Rafi duets after he sent me some statistics regarding Geeta Dutt songs in general and Geeta Dutt-Rafi duets in particular. According to those details, Geeta Dutt has sung most number of her songs for Chitragupta (about 100 songs). Also, Geeta Dutt has sung 155 duets with Rafi, and most number of these duets (30 numbers) are with Chitragupta, which may come as a surprise for music lovers, who may guess otherwise.

As far as this blog is concerned, as many as 51 Rafi-Geeta Dutt duets have already been discussed, and the list includes several forgotten gems. Considering that Geeta Dutt sang around 1400 Hindi songs or so, this blog has covered nearly 25 % of all her songs (342 to be precise). So it is a matter of time before we will be able to cover nearly all Geeta Dutt songs in the blog.

Here is another delightful Rafi-Geeta Dutt duet which I heard for the first time only just now. This song is from “Hamaari Shaan” (1951). Anjum Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is difficult to guess how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Raja.
