Kya hawa chali baba rut badli

There are songs that become very popular when they are released and they then go on to become all time great memorable songs. Then there are songs which become pupular dutring their time but they graduually become forgotten as time passes. Future generations grow up without being aware of the existence of such songs.
Here is one such song. This song is from a movie called “Parakh” released in 1960. Till two days ago, I had never heard this song. I heard this song for the first time two days ago the old fashioned way that has become outdated long ago, viz in an early morning Vividh Bharati broadcast in a small town. In Vividh Bharati’s old songs programme, I heard this song “kya hawa chali re baba rut badli”. I noted down this song in a piece of paper for further investigation.
When I came within access to internet, I searched for this song and managed to find the details. I came to know that this song was from a movie called “Parakh.”.
More than humour, this song is a satire, which mocks at people who suddenly take to “social service”, not because they believe in the cause, but they find it an easy route to get government/ non government funding.
It is a vey nice song, which I heard for the first time some half a century after it was created.
This song was sung by Manna Dey under the baton of Salil Chowdhary. It is very sharp satire penned by Shailendra. This song is a hidden gem, and I am proud to bring this song for the listening and watching pleasure of the lovers of Bollywood songs, who may never have heard this wonderful song.
I thank Vividh Bharati, and the fellow who religiously tunes in to Vividh Bharati from 6 AM every day without fail in that Jhumri Talaiyya- esque small place when I found myself two days ago, and where I managed to hear this gem of a song.
Song-Kya hawa chali baba (Parakh) (1960) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics- Shailendra, MD- Salil Chowdhury
lyrics
Kya hawa chali baba rut badli
O baba Kya hawa chali re baba rut badli
Shor hai gali gali
sau sau choohe khay ke billi haj ko chali
Kya hawa chali baba rut badli
Shor hai gali gali
sau sau choohe khay ke billi haj ko chali
Kya hawa chali baba o baba rut badli o baba
pahle log mar rahe the bhookh se abhaav se
pahle log mar rahe the
pahle log mar rahe the bhookh se abhaav se
ab kahin ye mar na jaaye apni kaanv kaanv se
are meethi baat kadvi lage gaaliyan bhali
Kya hawa chali
Kya hawa chali re baba rut badli
Shor hai gali gali
sau sau choohe khay ke billi haj ko chali
Kya hawa chali o baba
upar aao are jhijhakte kyon ho
upar aao
ye mandir to tumhara hi hai bhaaiyya
prasaad lo
Bhagwaan ke ghar me koi chota bada nahin hai
sab baraabar hain
ha ha ha
Aaj to jahan ki ulti har ik baat hai
ulti har ik baat hai
are hum jo kahe din hai bhai log kahen raat hai
log kahen raat hai
khet me bhi khil rahi hai pyaar ki kali
Kya hawa chali
Kya hawa chali re baba rut badli
Shor hai gali gali
sau sau choohe khay ke billi haj ko chali
Kya hawa chali o baba
board kyon badal rahe hain
purana ho gaya hai kya
are keshto
bhai ko naye board ka matlab samjha de
are budhoo dikhta nahi
likha hai khairaati dawakhana
aainnda gareebon se ek kaudi nahin lee jaayegi
doctor saahab muft ilaaz karenge
aam me uge khajoor neem me phale hain aam
aam me uge khajoo
are aam me uge khajoor neem me phale hain aam
Daakuon ne jog liya chor bhaje Raam naam
Hosh ki dawa karo miyan Fazal Ali
kya hawa chali
kya hawa chali re baba rut badli
Shor hai gali gali
sau sau choohe khay ke billi haj ko chali
Kya hawa chali baba o baba rut badli

“Sau sau chuhe khayi ke billi haj ko chali’
This line refers to the saying which is ” Nau sau chuhe kha ke billi haj ko chali” (Referring to the 9 lives that a cat is supposed to have) meaning “somebody is turning to God after doing a lot of evil deeds”.
