Dil ka haal sune dilwaala

Shri 420 was a musical blockbuster which was full of wonderful songs. Most songs were sung by Mukesh on Raj Kapoor, but there was one wonderful comedy song sung by Manna Dey for Raj Kapoor.
It is a cute comedy song. The melody of this song keeps you mesmerised as many times as you listen to it. I have listened to this song about a dozen time already, and my dil maange more.
Here is this song, one of the “less popular” songs of Shri 420- if such a thing is possible for songs of this movie. Raj Kapoor with a dafli in his hand singing at midnight annoying the sethji trying to sleep in his home, the picturisation of this song is just as amusing as the lyrics of the song. A cute, heartwarming feel good song for the hoi polloi, who gather around Raj Kapoor and dance around him to show their appreciation of the song. Ladies in their half saris dancing round Raj Kapoor, it is a lovely song that warms our cockles even today, more than 50 years after this song was picturised.
Song- dil ka haal sune dilwaala (Shri 420) ( 1955) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Shailendra , MD- Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
hooo ho
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
seedhi si baat na mirch masala
kahke rahega kahne waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
aji dil ka haal sune dilwaala
seedhi si baat na mirch masala
kahke rahega kahne waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
chhote se ghar mein ghareeb ka beta
main bhi hoo ma ke naseeb ka beta
ho chhote se ghar mein ghareeb ka beta
main bhi hoo ma ke naseeb ka beta
ranzo gham bachpan ke saathi
andhiyon me jali jeewan baati
bhookh ne hai bade pyaar se paala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
seedhi si baat na mirch masala
kahke rahega kahne waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
hay karoon kya soorat aisi
gaanth ke poore chor ke jaisi
ho hay karoon kya soorat aisi
gaanth ke poore chor ke jaisi
chalta firta jaan ke ek dil
bin dekhe pahchaan ke ek din
baandh ke le gaya policewala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
seedhi si baat na mirch masala
kahke rahega kahne waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
boodhe daroga ne chashme se dekha
boodhe daroga ne chashme se dekha
aage se dekha peeche se dekha
upar se dekha neeche se dekha
bole ye kya kar baithe ghotaala
hai ye kya kar baithe ghotaala
ye to hai thaanedaar kaa saala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
seedhi si baat na mirch masala
kahke rahega kahne waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
ho ho
gham se abhi aazaad nahi main
khush hoon magar aabaad nahin main
gham se abhi aazaad nahi main
khush hoon magar aabaad nahin main
manzil mere paas khadi hai
paanv me lekin bedi padi hai
taang adaata hai daulat waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
seedhi si baat na mirch masala
kahke rahega kahne waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
ho ho
sunlo magar ye kisi se na kahna
tinke ka leke sahaara na bahna
sunlo magar ye kisi se na kahna
tinke ka leke sahaara na bahna
bin mausam malhar na gaana
aadhi raat ko mat chillana
warna pakad lega police waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala
seedhi si baat na mirch masala
kahke rahega kahne waala
dil ka haal sune dilwaala

The wordings of this song give me a feeling that there may be some anecdotes which inspired Shailendra to write such a song. Keeping with his style of writing, wordings are simple but convey subtle message and satire in a lighter vain (e.g., …bhookh ne bade pyar se palaa ….taang adata is daulat waala ….tinke ka leke shahara na bahana.)
An immortal song.

Bahut mazaa aaya, Atul.
Thanks a million for posting so many of my farmaishes.
I just realised you have posted a variety..Mukesh (ye kaun chitrakar hai), Kishore (rona kabhi nahin rona), Rafi-Asha (abhi na jaao) and Manna Dey (dil ka haal).
Wonderful…I myself had not realised that I had requested different singers’ songs.
That shows the richness and class of old songs…the song is more important, not the singer.
Thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
More farmaishes are coming your way 🙂
You don’t know what you have started, Atul. 🙂
