Ramchandra kah gaye siya se
Posted on: October 11, 2008
We are told that olden days were golden days and that the present day are much worse. The days of Ram Rajya were the stuff of dreams, and the present age of Kalyug has seen deterioration in human values, we are told.
This song compares the Era of Lord Ram with the present era of Kalyug and tells us that we living in our era are deprived of the fruits of dwapar yug. Us poor mortals.
This song, sung by Mahendra Kapoor and picturised on Dilip Kumar, was a comment on Indian society from a point of view of a conservative person talking of “good old days”. From that point of view, it is a serious song. But from some other point of view, it could be regarded as a light hearted song.
As a kid, I found it a fun song. But unfortunately, I could not listen to this song enough number of times, as this song did not become that popular. Now technology affords me the opportunity to make amends. The same technology also allows me to share my views on this song with many others, who may or may not have heard this song earlier.
Song- Ramchandra kah gaye Siya se (Gopi) (1970) Singer- Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics- Rajinder Krishan, MD- Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics
He ji re
He ji re
He ji re
he
Raamchandra keh gaye siyaase
Raamchandra keh gaye siyaase
aaisa kaljug aayega
hans chugega daana dunka
hans chugega daana dunka
kawwa moti khaayega
he ji re
he ji re
Siyaane poochhaa, Bhagwan
kalajug mein dharam karam ko koi nahi maanegaa?
to Prabhu bole:
dharam bhi hoga, karam bhi hoga
dharam bhi hoga, karam bhi hoga
parantu sharam nahi hogi
baat baat me maata pitaako
baat baat me maata pitaako
beta aankh dikhaayega
he Ramchandra kah gaye siya se
Raaja aur praja dono mein
hogi nisdin khenchaataani
khenchaataani
kadam kadam par karenge dono
apni apni manmaani
manmaani
he
jiske haath mein hogi laathi
jiske haath mein hogi laathi
bhains wahi le jaayega
hans chugega dana dunka
hans chugega dana dunka
kawwa moti khayega
he Ramchandra kah gaye Siya se
suno Siya kaljug mein
kaala dhan aur kaale man honge
kaale man honge
chor uchchakke nagar seth
aur prabhu bhakt nirdhan honge
nirdhan honge
hai
jo hoga lobhi aur bhogi
jo hoga lobhi aur bhogi
wo jogi kehlaayega
hans chugega dana dunka
hans chugega dana dunka
kawwa moti khayega
he Ramchandra kah gaye Siya se
mandir soona soona hoga
bhari rahengi madhushaala
madhushaala
pitaake sang sang bhari sabhaa mein
naachengi ghar ki baala
ghar ki baala
kaisa kanyaadaan pitaa hi
kaisa kanyaadaan pitaa hi
kanyaa ka dhan khaayega
hans chugega dana dunka
hans chugega dana dunka
kawwa moti khayega
he ji re
he ji re
he
moorakh ki preet buri juyeki jeet buri
bure sang baith chain bhaage hi bhaage
bhaage hi bhaage
kaajal ki kothri mein kaiso hi jatana karo
kaajal ka daag bhaai laage hi laage bhai
kaajal ka daag bhaai laage hi laage
he ji re
he ji re
he
kitna jati ho koi kitna sati ho koi
kaamni ke sang kaam jaage hi jaage
jaage hi jaage
suno kahe gopeeraama jiska hai raamadhaam
uska to phand gale laage hi laage re bhai
uska to phand gale laage hi laage
he ji re

I do remember this song though I was very young when this movie was released. It was a hit movie as far as I can remember. At least many of the songs were hits. There was also that bhajan “Sukh ke sab saathi, dukh mein na koi”.
