Meri muhabbat jawaan rahegi

I have just realised that when it comes to love songs in Bollywood, the lyrics do not believe in making small talk, rather they make big talk. The lover would not say such small things like “I love you”, rather he would talk on a much larger scale like how his love is forever, how his love can move mountains, etc.
Despite all these gradiloquent talk, the hero would often get roughed up by the villain, and his love would get a raw deal by the society for almost the entire duration of the movie except the climax scene. In case of such setbacks, the hero would sing yet another song describing in exaggerated detail how his love was suffereing thanks to the “bedard zamana”.
In this song, Shammi Kapoor is professing his love for Rajshree. The setting is Kashmir (what else) and he talks about how his love would remain young for ever. He would sing similar songs for Sharmila Tagore, Asha Parekh etc in different movies ( all shot in Kashmir). That way, Shammi Kapoor’s beloveds( if not his love) were certainly young in these films.
It would be much later that we would get more prosaic love songs just saying “I love you”. One of these days, I will post such songs too.

Song- Meri muhabbat jawaan rahegi (Jaanwar) (1965) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics- Hasrat Jaipuri, MD- Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
Meri Muhabbat Jawaan Rahegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Meri Muhabbat Jawaan Rahegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Tadap Tadap Kar Yehi Kahegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Na Tumsa Koyi Zamaane Bhar Mein
Ho Ho
Na Tumsa Koyi Zamaane Bhar Mein
Tumhi Ko Chaha, Meri Nazar Ne
Tumhi Ko Chaha, Meri Nazar Ne
Tumhe Chuna Hai, Tumhe Chunegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Meri Mohabbat Jawaan Rahegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Jo Aag Dil Mein Lagi Huyi Hai
Ho Ho
Jo Aag Dil Mein Lagi Huyi Hai
Yehi To Manzil Ki Roshni Hai
Yehi To Manzil Ki Roshni Hai
Na Yeh Bhuji Hai Na Yeh Bhujegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Meri Mohabbat Jawaan Rahegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Tumhare Pahlu Mein Gar Mare Hum
ho Tumhare Pahelu Mein Garmare Hum
To Maut Kitni Haseen Hogi
To Maut Kitni Haseen Hogi
Chitaa Mein Jal Kar Bhi Na Mitegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi
Meri Mohabbat Jawaan Rahegi
Sada Rahi Hai, Sada Rahegi…
Translation
My love will remain young forever
It has always been so, and it will always remain so
There is no one like you in this whole world
You are the one that I liked
I liked you in the past, I will like you in the future
My heart is burning with fires of desire
this will serve as the light to the destination
this fire can not be doused, and will not be doused
If I could die in your company
then it would be worth dying for
this love will not get erased, even if burnt in the pyre
My love will remain young forever
It has always been so, and it will always remain so

Very nice song.
Normally Shammi songs are enjoyable just watching him but this particular one can be thoroughly enjoyed just closing your eyes and listening to Rafi saab.
